i have the same problem with painter and i have win2000 pro installed. the brush only lags when it gets too big. a size 4 brush works fine. although, it still lags when being used over a large area. i really don't know how to fix the lag prob, but if you said that painter works faster in 98, then i guess use 98.
btw, my painter keeps rebooting my computer, anyone know why? |

Bummer. I'm still on NT4, but was planning an upgrade to win2000. I sure don't want to increase Painter lag.
btw, how much ram on your system?

Quaternius - I have 512Mb RAM
I've got reports from several other people, of Windows 2000 being slower when handling graphics, BUT... one of my coworkers said this morning, that he might have heard about a solution! I've put him on the task, so he'll get back to me by tomorrow! I'm really frustrated by these Win2000 problems... It's supposed to be a PROFESSIONAL operating system
I'll be sure to post anything that I find out might help!
00ooo.... SMEF! |

Hi guyz
Sorry for this tech-crap...
I'm puzzled and p*ssed off
On WinNT 4.0 my graphics were fluid in all applications... but now that I've installed Win2000 on my new HD, my worst nightmares have come true.
When scaling images in ACDSee i have to wait a bit for screen redraws... and when zooming in Painter the screen redraws slower than it used to, also the brushes respond slower.
I also have Win98SE installed, so I tried Painter just to make sure and it was much faster than in Win2000, which makes no sense at all!!
So now I think to myself... You guys, who report lag in Painter... are you running Win2000??? And more importantly, do you have any solution to my problem... I really have tried everything imaginable.
(I have tried all the different drivers for my ASUS GeForce 256, even the newest nVidia Detonator3 drivers, but there's no noticable difference between them... I'm about to FREAK out! (I have installed Service Pack 1))
HELP!
Now I want to switch back to NT4.0 but I can't install it because my C: drive is formatted with FAT32 for my Win98 partition.
Which leaves me with several hours of installation time WASTED!
I hate to waste time on tech-stuff...
Sometimes I just wish that I still had my Amiga.

I just added the spanking new nVidia Detonator3 drivers (6.50) from 05.02.2001 to my Win2K setup and they actually improved zooming speeds in Painter and ACDSee a bit... although noticable difference was gained, I'm still getting nowhere the performance I got from WinNT 4.0
If I haven't found a solution at the end of this week... I'll reformat, and reinstall WinNT 4.0... ungroovy

Shardik -
Those specs on their website haven't changed since Painter 3/4... and are way too low.
15-25MB HD space??? More like 100+MB for Painter 6!
I would say though, that your system should handle Painter well under Win98.
Sorry can't help
