Well new semestre starting at school and our first topic or theme is we have to paint with acrylics or oils what we are most affraid of. My teacher asked the students to do some research before making thumbnails. What the teacher wants is to show in our painting what we are afraid of without painting what we are afraind of, He wants us to paint how we feel when we are afraid of what we are afraid of. Still following? For example if we are scared of spiders he doesnt want us to paint a spider but wants us to paint how we feel when we see a spider. I have already made a small research on how other artist would go abouts doing this and one that i found found to show fear was Munch. Anways this is where i ask you guys how you would go abouts showing something your are afraid of without painting it.
Note: Answering this question is not gonna be a shortcut to doing my homework but will be information to help me do my paiting. im not asking what i should draw it but only asking how you would do it( dont tell me what you would draw ). Pls try to make the distinction. Hope i didnt confuse anyone adn wish people would take part of this so called personnal research |

This sounds like more touchy-feely express-yourself instruction - not the solid foundational instruction that would...
*I better stop before I start preaching*
Don't understand. Are you saying your teacher wants you to paint an abstract, non-representational picture of the emotion "fear" - or are you saying your teacher wants a self-portrait of YOU experiencing fear - or did the teacher leave that decision up to you?
Maybe a little more explanation and some of us could help.

we can basically do anything we want as long as in the painting we show what we fear and paint what we feel. This means that if i am scared or affraid of banana's well he ( the teacher) basically wants us to show in our painting that we are afraid of banana's without putting a banana in the painting. So you would maybe be drawing monkeys and alot of yellow in it ect... you get my drift...
So now the question i was asking is lets say you take one of your fears and need to put it on a painting how would you go about showing how you feel when you experience that fear??? |

Oops, should've read better. Although I'm a little unclear on what the difference between 'how you would draw' and 'what you would draw' is... Basically I don't think this is something we can help you with, you have to visualize the abstract on your own. (Extend you ki!) :P

If I were to draw the emotion of being afraid of the dark I'd get a canvas and go over it like 20 times with a piece of coal... I saw someone do this on tv, and you get like an ABSOLUTE solid black if you do it enough times... then I'd draw a little child illuminated in the middle of it.
That'd be my version of being afraid of the dark, tho pretty clichd I guess. =)
