Hello all,
I was just writing to all of you who clean up line work digitally. It is easy to limit your options when converting line work to a digital format...
I am starting to write a tutorial, but for now I will throw out some tips. I am doing this in hopes that I will get enough feed back that my tutorial will be comprehensive and offer more than one one soulution to a common problem.
1. try to have a clean drawing before scanning.
2. try to to get the levels and contrast as good as you can when scanning. Photoshop is a good tool, but not a miricle worker.
3. in Photoshop...CALCULATIONS...is your friend.( found under IMAGE )
3a.create a new layer using you scaned art work
3b.use that layer(channel grey) as BOTH sources. BLENDING mode NORMAL. New SELECTION.
3c.DELETE.
3d.Inverse selection.( "ctrl+shft+i")
3e. FILL BLACK( after pressing "d" press alt+delete) this fills using forground color.
3f.with selection still on switch to channels panel and press create mask icon (that little square thing with the dotted circle in it) for future use, just in case.
3g. ctrl+d to deselect selection
3h.select your nice clean line layerin the layers panel...press ctrl+slash to preserve transparency!!!
4. this method allows you to color your lines and have a clean transition to whatever color is on lower layers!!!
5. no matter what technique you use for coloring, always keep line work on a seperate layer.
Well, that's it for now!!
keep on coloring.
I look forward to others telling me thier cool tricks.

Or smack it through Streamline and clean it up in Illustrator for vector goodness.
