Quite new with the program, and the whole digital coloring scene in general. I looked through the tutorial, followed the steps, and I got stopped with the most idiotic thing...How the heck do I set the magic wand to dodge and burn for the highlights etc..

Thanks a bunch in advance to anyone who can help =)

If you have it in yer mind to go ahead and tell a new digital artist any tips of the trade, I won't mind hehe =)

der.. for making selections you probably would want to use the polygon lasso tool instead of the magic wand.. the wands inaccurate. after you have what you want selected change to the dodge or burn tool, the magic wand doesnt do it itself.

The magic wand tool doesn't change. This is what you are looking for.

Ahhhh, thankyou very much the both a ya... But in my search to figure it out while waiting...I found another method, make a seperate dodge layer, and a seperat burn layer... it seems to me that it would work fine, is there anyone that would disagree?...I imagine it might get to be a pain changing the opacity if I need to over and over...but...*Shrugs* yer opinions?

all you'll ever need is the Background layer.

CHANNELS are the key.

I think its funny how you rarely see a PS user who uses both channels and layers on a frequent basis. Its either almost always the one or always the other...

hmmm

i use layers when i see that it's clearly faster and more efficient to use them.

don't get me wrong, i have 200+ layer monsters here. just for 512x512 rez textures alone.

Yeah, that's right. You're the person with the insane amount of RAM. I don't remember how much it is, but it's a lot.

I use layers, but not a lot. Channels are the better way to go for selections. You can save them, and so on.

eh?

non rgb (or cmyk/lab/etc) channels = selections = non rgb channels.
