Because this time it wandered too deep into Finnish territory!
I give you.... The Arctic Defender!
Latest in technology, this mech type patrols northern Finland, keeping intruders (ahem, mr. flushgarden ;) away.
Oh and btw. those bullet holes in l capitans mech I can't explain, must be a swedish thing :].
And yes, the Imperium would have gladly bought these prototypes to be used in the invasion of Hoth. Heh, suckers..
I'm not really done with the background, just had to have a break.
comments?

Hehe, actually it's more or less my vision of the ancient Jenner from the original Mechwarrior.

Thanks Captain,
Erm, well, Since my computer is too slow, I tend to draw at what-you-see-is-what-you-get resolution in photoshop. I usually paint a background on a layer to get the scene colors somewhat ok, then I create new layers for each object I create... a color block sketch with the intensity matching what I want to acheive in luminosity over my background, taking into account ambiant lighting and local lighting (if any). I keep on refining this color blob adding correct lighting for additional geometry details, etc. When I'm satisfied, I merge it to the background, and go on refining, making better lighting adaptations, reflections, marks, local light speculars and effects, etc. But basically, I don't love the results I get... they all seem washed out for some reason, maybe my brush edges are too soft, and/or I'm afraid of adding too much contrast or something... I truly don't know what's wrong with it all... all I know is that I wish I could do better... much better. |

This sparks a great idea.. how about bi-weekly.. we have a plot or storyline..
Someone starts off with a picture that can be expanded on.. And another person continues it.. it should be called something like .. "Digital Story Tellers.." or "DST"
This will give artists a chance to build on skills that involve moving a story along and actually painting bg's and what not.. and also can be funny at the same time.. like what happnened in this thread.. What do you guys think of that idea?
there should be more stuff added to the idea, suggestions are welcome..

Hey Frost, I think it's excellent, even though it isn't that refined, like you said. It's very spoogerific in the sense I can tell you have a lot of talent and understand form and weight even though the style is very loose.
In other words, a 10 minute spooge or frost or fred painting is better than a 3 day barker painting |

flush: hmm, I'm still open to some negotiation, but you better keep your rusty toes out of our property, just remember that and one day we might stand side by side defending our scandinavian soil from the Canadian invaders. (see above)
frost: whoa. love the headlights. also, that's one tough mech to knock over.
Freddio:
Hmm, looks empty and harmless, eh? ask flushgarden :]
Anyway, added the national markings with some texture and a background. here ya go
edit:
thought I'd link the sketch as well, now that I uploaded it and all http://members.surfeu.fi/pveik/turhatjpgt/mechsketch.jpg

Gecko: very cool, although the light looks a little too strong(ie too white) in some places, or maybe its just my taste..

very cool stuff you all, gecko, frost, captain F. !!! Funny/inventive threads with good drawing is what makes the forum worth while, like this. When someone post and people get inspired to follow up.
gecko, you are damn good with colors and light, I think. When you get a bit more trained with anatomy and faces (do you do any linedrawing ?) wou will be a hell of an artist...don't say you don't make top notch stuff, but I really look forward to see that integrated to the same quality as this.
