Would someone please explain how to get nice effects with lighting? I tried a campfire scene[shown here] but the lighting didn't turn out the way I expected.... looks a bit odd. Anyway, please do help!

the fire dosent look natural. it looks like a big red spike thats going to stab someone. the moon isnt a circle, its an oval. but the lighting looks pretty cool. when an object is being lit from behind, the edge only has a highlight, and the rest remains black. maybe u should try that with the tree that is in front.

My alter ego did this a while ago, bet you thought you would never be assaulted with it again, eh?
The cheap trick is color dodge, try it, you will like it. I did not use it here, but probably should have.
It is amazing how similar your picture is to this composition, I am sure by chance (no sarcasm intended)

That is spooky !
As if craig hasn't said enough, (a picture is worth more words than what I'm about to say) the moon is oval. In reality, it's a circle. And the fire is too red. |

I see what ya mean spooge. Yah, my ocmposition looks like yours. Heh.. your's is quite atmospheric and just *sniff* *sniff* kicks the living snot outta my painting.. never seen it before The only things I CAN paint are trees, rocks, and landscape. Anyway, I'll work on it. All this fancy smancy atmosphere effects. Thanks for all your replies.
Just realized I have no idea what spooge meant by color dodge.... All i see is the dodge tool. Anyone care to elaborate on what he meant?
[edit] actually come to think of it.. I saw a variation of that by belasarias a while ago. just searched the forum for campfire. Probably saw yours too. Might have been an influence on me.[/edit]

well color dodge is a mode for your paintbrush or layer. CLick on paint brush and on the tool bar click the drop down menu that has the different modes for the paintbrush. It usually says NORMAL by default. In there their are options like multiply, color dodge, color burn , dissolve ect... |

Wow. That burns in crazy contrast. But, I was just wondering how am i suppsoed to use it for lighting.. like the color choice. I'm a little confused on what spooge was trying to imply. |

Spooge: (sigh) Your presence is missed among us learning folk. Really miss your critiques and comments. Maybe WorthlessMeatSack could drop by more often? |
