Ok folks this is how far I've gotten up till this evening, time permitting me to work on this as I have 4 projects I'm doing at once for various companies. I went ahead and started coloring this piece and got all of the base tones laid down and began lighting and shading some areas, mainly the skin, facemask and hair. I will post an update later tomorrow afternoon with it hopefully finished. After he is done then I will begin rendering the background. If your wondering the light source and palette I've chosen is for a night time setting with light sources from 2 different primary sources. Please comment on this as I'd like to improve my coloring skills. Thanks guys and gals. Laterz.

Thanks much.

I like what you've done so far. Colors look good to me. The eyes look a bit off though - almost like he's doing the Mr Spock "Huh?" thing. Maybe thats just me though. The lighting is a bit ambigous at the moment as well. Bright one in front and above? Where is the second one supposed to be? Some reflections on the metal parts should help with that I think. |

it's looking good.. I like the overall color scheme, but i think you are using hilights which are too bright and too many- it feels like everything is made of some shiney plastic. make sure you know where your light are coming from, and make sure you take notice of the 3d shapes and the materials that the light falls on - both have a great influence on the way the light behaves- on some shapes or materials it will form larger, broader pools of light, while on others it should form smaller streaks and dots. |

not a bad base.. i agree about the highlights, they make the skin look like it's shiny rubber or something.
it looks like you want this to be a night-time picture or something, right? how about going over everything with a blue tone, deciding where the moon is coming from, and adding some nice moonlight and shadows on the character?

WOW! Didn't expect you to check my work out Micke...hehe. Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions. Fortunately the way that I work I never ink over my original pencilings so I still have it to work with if need be. This is the first of 3 inking styles I inked this piece in so far and my first coloring of it. Now that I've had a chance to step back and look at it again I agree with the majority in that his skin looks plastic like with those sharp highlights. I'm going to fix that. As for the hand size maybe I'll go back and rework the penciling and then ink it again to see what difference I can create. Once again thank you much for the comments and suggestions, they are appreciated. I will be updating this shortly.

Mab: Lookin' good. Looks like you use the airbrush to color primarily. I'd sharpen things up some as it seems too soft to me. Hope that helps. Thanks for taking a stab at it. It's always interesting to see others interpretations of my characters. Are you in France? Just curious, i'm thinking that's where Grenoble is...maybe I'm wrong. Thanks again.

Hi Optx.
I like the shapes on it. It looks very solid.
I agree with the eye, though.
Maybe the hands are too small? Bigger hands, more bad-ass looking, i think. The biggest problem to me is the way you have coloured it(shaded). It looks plastic to me.
The hair, flesh etc. You could take away the
highlights or make them less intense.
Hope this can help you in any way

Ok I'm back finally, heh...I had a big meeting today on a website I'm working on so I didn't get to spend anytime coloring last night or today, but I have this whole weekend to myself so I will get back to it. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I went ahead and began recoloring and the highlights are more vast than precise so it shouldn't look like plastic anymore. Weeee. I'll post an update saturday. Thanks guys and gals. Laterz.
Oh yeah, Kuzya, I can't see your pic when i click that link.

Nice start.
Bilbo had a point. You have the highlights touching the sides of the arm with small points of light. Then the rest of the arm is flat color. Those highlights need to spread out across the arm more. And that follows for the rest of the coloring.
I agree, I don't like it when the skin is so shiny. But it is your image, so color your way.
