hey, i just finished this pic, so here goes, tell me what u think, and then ill go from there.

And its great to see that other people still know WHY we celebrate Christmas in the first place Christ-Mas(birth)

umm... the truth of christmas huh?

"Christmas was not celebrated nor commemorated in any way by the apostles, nor was it celebrated in the apostolic church (not for at least the first 300 years of church history)! Such celebration only came into the church with the "Christianization" of pagan rites as Catholicism was made the state religion by Constantine in the fourth century A.D. History reveals that by about 440 A.D., the Church at Jerusalem started celebrating Christmas, following the lead of Roman Catholicism (see below).

Seemingly forgotten is the essential role religion played in the world of ancient Rome. But Constantine understood. A brilliant military commander, he also had the genius to recognize the need for a union between paganism and Christianity. Hence, the Babylonian mystery religions were introduced by Constantine in 313 A.D. as he tried to incorporate the pagans into the newly constituted "Holy" Roman Empire. The Constantine-led Roman Church was willing to adapt and adopt pagan practices in order to make Christianity palatable to the heathen.

Thus, pagan rituals and idols took on Christian names. For example, Jesus Christ was presented as the Su n of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2) replacing the sun god, Sol Invictus. Pagan holidays were reclassified as Christian holidays (holy-days). December 25th was the "Victory of the Sun-God" Festival in the pagan Babylonian world, and a celebration of the Festival of Saturn (Saturnalia), or winter solstice, in the ancient Roman Empire. To all ancient pagan civilizations, this date was the birthday of the gods--the time of year when the days began to lengthen and man was blessed with a "regeneration of nature." Moreover, all the December 25th' Babylonian and Roman festivals were characterized by celebration periods of unrestrained or orgiastic revelry and licentiousness."

lol, yeah thanks for that clarification jcterminal, and i agree to an extent, i dont think christ was born on the 25th of december, but its the day we celebrate it. infact, we should be celebrating it everyday.

and to isric, i was going to capitalize "He" but the capital H looked really out of place with this font. and yes this quote is from the bible, luke 3 i think...i cant quite remember where i got it. the angel says it to mary.

heh. my family doesnt celebrate christmas. why should we only be nice and give gifts on one day? you should be nice and give gifts whenever you feel a gift is neccisary. its much better that way.

now dont attack me with religious squabble about the reason we celebrate, it doesnt matter. you should still be giving all year-round. not when the church(for religious ones) or halmark(the un-religious ones) say so.

just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to finish the that piece?

i do happen to like religious art, the last supper is one of my favorite paintings of all time...it just seems that people now days are more concerned with their message than the quality of their art. text is all fine and good, but i would be more impressed if you used images to express your thoughts ...rather than words.


i was raised christan, went to a catholic school; most of my relatives are religious nuts including my siblings and parents. what i have come to understand through my personal experiances is that christianity is fixated on death. it is a very morbid religion, with a dark history. In the christian religion christmas is supposed to be a celibration of the birth of jesus...but the thing is, i dont believe that to be the truth. what i believe to be true is that on christmas more christians celibrate jesus dying on the cross "for mankinds sins" than celibrate his birth and the life that he lived.

take a look at the cross, its the symbol that represents your religion...a cross, one of the most horrible torture devices in human history; and its a symbol of your religion. it disgusts me, how morbid you guys are.

even your artwork here, is dark and depressing; people need to enjoy life, growing old is part of a natural cycle, it should be celibrated not tolerated.

you can live your life dwelling on death if you want, but i know this christmas jesus will be the farthest thing from my mind and i will be happier for it.

sorry, i should of made it clear. even tho the spirit of christmas has been mangled by today's religion, there's nothing wrong with celebrating the birthday of a wise and gently philosopher during this season.

i just wish this holiday wasn't monopolized. there's plenty other people who's teaching has touch our hearts in some way or another, and they should be recognized as well.

oh well. no one's saying i can't, and even if they did, fork em!

outside of that... i think the pic that started this thread was actually very good, and i apologize for not mentioning that earlier.

ok, to ben barker- funny.

to giant hampster- the church dosent say to give gifts on christmas, they only preach the birth of christ.

to faithinchaos- it took me about 10 min, i have a mouse, and it turned out better than i expected.
Jesus' death is huge, and thats why we celbrate it, because without his death, we coudnt have eternal life. Christianity does have a morbid background, and there are things the church are not proud of. (the crusades etc etc)not all christians are morbid, and the ones who commanded the crusades, were only followers of religion not Christ. Religion is controlling, and depressing, but God sets us free from that.
well yes, christianity is a religion, and I am a christian, But i follow Christ, and his commandments, and not the churchs.
