if the hand is supposed to be melting into the water, it looks pretty good.
get rid of the flesh in the water. if anything add water ripples going out from it, and possibly draw the rest of the arm underwater. and maybe draw some water refractionon the arm |

well, I'm gonna give my best shot at some constructive criticism. Basically, if the sword is lighting up and the sun (or moon) in the background is a light source, then the arm should have some shadow on the leftish side. Also, directly below the arm should be a reflection - ripple this reflection and it should look awesome.
I like how the water looks. Likes really nice. The background needs more variation in color, some blues, browns and stuff like that. Give the rocks more volume. Some highlights and stuff like that.
The sword also looks kind of flat. Maybe a bit of grey on the bottom side, but then again if the sword is a light source, then I guess it'd look like that. Not too sure...
On an anatomical point of view, the fingers look a little short. The whole hand is roughly 2/3 the arm's length. So the fingers should be a tad longer.
I like the sky, really nice. I always have a difficult time drawing clouds, but I think they look good here. Anyway, hope this helps. Anyway, keep up the work. k-rad

Hi
I don't want to repeat whats already been said, but I generally agree.
The only thing "left" is your signature.. okay, it's nice, but I think the font is a bit "off" somehow.. and it's too big. It somehow seems wrong.
I'm out |

Cybergod ... duck and cover dude:
You're a newbie yourself! You just joined last month!
And, before posting fairly poor artwork with a title like this, learn how to post, ok?
Once your learned this, why don't you use the sword on yourself, since you'll still be a neeewbie then.
Now, to give this reply a slight positive noye, the critique:
* post finished work - people will like your artwork better
* sign it when it's finished, not when it's 30% done
* image too blown out. Excessive use of 'dodge' and 'screen' will make your image clip to white.
* lensflares are to be used, so they are not recognized as the standard PS-filters they are and also not for the purpose to spice up poor artwork. I wonder if John Knoll realized what he did when he wrote that forsaken plugin
That's it ...
[yeah guys, you guessed right - I'm low on bloodsugar again]

no problem man..
For some reason this place is tough when someone new wants to get a crit. I asked for help a while back and only one or two replies lasting only one or two lines. Not too helpful. Still it's a good place to learn stuff by reading *other* threads.
Man Veterans get everything... I guess it's kind of like senior citizen's benefits ('cept it's for sijun.)

I don't think this will help you, but I post it anyway. To make something bright, you can do it by making some areas dark, so there is some contrast. A more sophisticated way is with color, but that is beyond the scope of what I can do here.
I think yours is fine, but you have lost contrast in an attempt to make it bright. Hold your lights for areas that will do you the most good. |
