ok... maybe not quite soap opera worthy, but still pretty damn screwed up.

I have 2 friends, lets call them Bob and Joe. Now, Bob was dating his ex-girlfriend, whom I shall call Nancy, for almost a year, when Joe meets Nancy and decides that he really really likes her. Bob is not the best boyfriend imaginable, and in fact, is a pretty crappy one.

Since Joe likes Nancy a great deal, he decides to take it upon himself to tell her some not so nice things that Bob has done in the hopes that she will break up with Bob and date him. And even though Joe's actions may seem to be less than honorable, what he tells Nancy is totally honest from his perspective, and Joe is mostly interested in getting Nancy out of a bad relationship. Joe told Nancy the bad stuff, and Nancy broke up with Bob and then a mere day later, started dating Joe.

One must understand that Joe and Bob were actually quite good friends even though Bob was being a dick to Nancy before that ever took place. By this time in the story, of course, they hate each other.

Before Joe actually told Nancy what was going on from his perspective, Joe confessed all his intentions to his best friend (your's truly) getting her invariably involved in the situation. I myself tried to offer some advice, since Joe was very upset at the plight of Nancy (who I actually have only met in a few passing conversations) although it was Joe's idea in the first place to tell Nancy about the things that Bob was saying and doing.

So... now comes a twist. Bob comes to me telling me about the horrible depression he's gone into at losing Nancy, and at first I have very little sympathy for him, but after a while of talking to him, I find that he truly did and still does care for her, even though he wasn't particularly adept at showing it before. And of course, Bob desperately wants Nancy back.

So he asks ME to talk to her, even though I barely know her. Indeed I think this is a very foolish idea, but then Bob is a very foolish person. I refuse, because I believe by talking to her, I could get Joe (who is really a very good person and one of 2 best friends of mine) extremely mad at me.

But oh, that's not the end at all... Joe and Nancy now have dated for about 3 months, and at the beginning, they were both very happy. Until Nancy started to get clingy... VERY clingy. So right now, at this very moment, Joe is on the phone breaking up with her because he just doesn't have enough time in his busy schedule to be with her at every moment, as is her wish.

so all's well? not by a long shot... because Bob doesn't know about this new development and Nancy will be absolutely crushed. How crushed? I really don't know, but I'm extremely involved and am council to 2 parties AND am trying my best to remain as neutral as possible.

And I will see to new things. I have found I have a great deal of power here too, because Joe is really not too bright and will pretty much what I suggest. I'm having trouble.

Suggestions? Questions? I'm in need of some...

i was in a simmilar situation. just mine was more like a "i like girl first, friend gets in way, takes girl, i be a bigger man, i try to forget, girl confesses she likes me, breaks up with friend, friend goes into denial, i stay away, i give in, i try to go with girl, friend turns to evil and talks shit about me to everyone, friend starts being abusive to girl, girl doesnt have enough confidence to just leave, i try helping, i get attacked by so-called-friend, all relations goto a halt, no one talks anymore, lonely, wish it could have worked out" kinda story. ya know, the usual. :\

hope yours works out somehow.

watch anime. it's much better to drool at 12 year old drawn girls with ten gallon breasts and butts than do things in real life(tm). be a loser and do nothing in life; you shall avoid all trouble.

social interaction is confusing and disorienting...at least with people who are preoccupied with "reproducing" and such...

[EDIT - it's late, what can I say]

Anyway, about your problem. I would just stay back and watch how things unfold. Offer a shoulder to cry on if it's needed but don't try and set things up as it can end with everyone breaking up.

You know what? Just let them do their thing. May the best man win, right? It's up to this "Nancy" to figure out what the hell she wants. You are not their baby-sitter. Let them work it out among themselves. If you get involved, you could lose friends. I've been there. I know. EVERYONE wants you to be on their side, and you really can't choose a side.

I'm guessing that Nancy will never work out what she wants. She is a women and they are notorious for that sort of thing. Damn confusing.

When it comes to this sort of think I'd like to think that I'm killing two birds with one stone, I've got interest in a Girl who isn't anything to do with my friends. Mainly because all my friends turn into two-faced bastards sooner or later anyway... *sulks*
