I finished this tonight and thought I would post it. Any comments/crits would be appreciated. I am new to digital art so go easy on me.

Woah great! You used lots of tiny brushes, eh? Must have been hell of work. Used reference?

yea, i agree with solid.. might want to try using the airbrush with a gray color and setting the transparency to multiply. the eyes look awesome. it definately needs some more depth though.

One other thing that flattens it out, I think, is the fact that you have a lot of lines in the picture, which don't go very well with the shading. The line between his paw and his face is the most prominent, but there are plenty of others. So what you're doing, essentially, is taking a fairly three-dimensional piece, and dividing it up into 2-D geometrical shapes. So get rid of these, and it'll look a lot more lively.

El Caseron:
Thanks. The brush size is probably not quite as small as you would think. The original image is 2880 X 3600. I did use a reference from an old "big cats" calendar that I have.

solidtransient:
Thanks for the comments. I am glad you brought up the issue of "flatness". I felt this about the picture as well. I wanted to get some independent feedback to see if this would be brought up. It is one of the main issues that I have with this picture.

MrHiemey:
Thanks for your suggestion. I will give the multiply technique a try and see if I can improve the picture. I will probably create a new layer for this purpose.

waylon:
I see what you are saying. I think if I spend some more time analyzing the light direction and add some shading to certain areas I could improve the picture.

Markham? Hey, my cousins live there! Hehe, cool. Small world, eh?

Anyway, the pic really does look pretty flat in places. I can't really see any places that you smudged in it. Might I suggest playing with that tool? Methinks it could improve the pic. Proportions look a little skewed too.

Good work! Must've taken a while.

the fur looks very very good. But the overall feel of the cougar is flat. I suppose more drastic shading could bring it out some.
