Okay, since i haven't posted anything for a while....

I've been doing a lot of set designs lately for an outside project. Here's a really quick marker sketch to test lighting (on a photocopy).

The final ones are a bit tighter and has more detail. I got a butt load of these to do before the 22nd of Dec...so i probably won't be posting for a while...Tho i'll be reading =)

[edit: 4:20pm 11/29/00]

a little test...kinda neat:

I like it very much, isnt it incredible what you can get out of markers in no time?
Please tell me, how long it took you to make this drawing and what kind of pen you use for the outline?

This is quite excellent work indeed!

I have a question for you, Feng: Are the perspectives in your drawings hand-constructed, computermade or are they just drawn straight from your imagination? Sorry for my limited vocabulary, but I hope you understand what I mean. Just curious...

Feng -
Good to have you back, even for a second.
Your work is so inspirational. I love your
marker renderings. Hope you get some free
time soon to do some recreational drawings.

Hey Vortex

Man that is one sweet as hell pic. I think you have to be one of the best young illustrators showing his stuff on the net that I have seen. I like you line work man and you use that grey scale shading perfectly. Good work man keep showing this stuff it is real insperational to us all!

I have not posted any work that I have done this past year. I think it will be suprising how similar our styles are when I do post something. I am also a big fan of Doug Chaing and I also have elements of Charest and some anime...hmm I will have to find something to scan and post..see how similar they look..

Anyways that remins me ..I e-mailed you awile back and you did not get back to me..what's up with that... are you one of those uppity artists? You don't seem like it ..just wondering?

Phew! You're still there. Would have been a real shame to lose your top notch concept works. Great inspiration/motivation for me. No crits.
Hope sijun will be back in shape soon.

PS: do you just color on regular copypaper, or do you use special paper in the copier? I found regular paper sometimes sux with markers (bleeding etc.)

i'm curious, do you use a ruler when you're making this type of concept drawing? in school, i had a layout class where we created very similar types of images, and we were "not allowed" to use rulers. the prof favored the more organic look that you get without a ruler.

thank you all for the comments. I don't have much time to write....(yes Joachim, extremely busy).

This draw is part of a series of set designs. The major perspective was constructed in 3D (makes it easier to draw multiple versions at different perspectives...which was neccessary in this case). Using 3D on set design is very useful - it saves me a lot of time. This is the first time i've used 3D in my art....kinda fun. Of course all the details and stuff are done by hand. No rulers were used =) I personally believe rulers slow you down...

Good to see some of you back as well.

I'll try to post up the finished ones by January.

Busy busy w/ work stuff. But it's all fun...=)

Hey TheMilkMan, sorry about the e-mail thing. I try to answer all my mails...but i miss a few from time to time =P Re-send it...

yeah Anthony, those tubes are kinda wacked. But i fixed those on the final drawings...=)

Vortx ! Post more of the stuff you do at work ! (if it's allowed of course)

I really prefer the marker art to the digitaly retouched pic. I feel that high contrast on the concrete would be better considering the sun's position. But.. wait a minute.. is that light source the sun ??

Anyway it's really nice. I can almost smell the dust and metal tang in the air..
Somehow I feel as if this place would be located in a desertic or semi desertic area. Am I nuts ?

Slick as usual.
Randomly drawing whatnot is one thing but this sort of stuff (to me) is like maths or science. Perspectives and the like goes over my head, no idea where to begin and no clue as to the processes involved.
So I guess I'm saying......respect, this shits impressive.

I thought about taking a 3d image and doing the same. When I first saw it I thought it would be cool to make 3D. But it seem youve beaten me to it. I'll have to try this technique down the road.

Cool stuff like to see more.
