I did another one, and I'm gonna show it now. It's not actually a very good likeness -- I was concentrating too hard on getting accurate colors, and forgot to make sure it was drawn right. The background is halfass too, but I'm done with it. Comments are welcome

Wow..
*cower* very nice. And what a wonderful contrast.. them 'death' bracelets, yet you have a peaceful, thoughtful look on your face The colors are good, especially on your left hand, and eyes. Did'ja use a photo? In that case, lucky duck, i wish it snowed like that here.
Couple things, though.. that bluish tone around the mouth seems a little out of place. One way to fix that is to use that same shade somewhere else in the skin tone. Shade the ear, too. I'm gettin the idea that light is coming from the front-left side, therefore should be shadowing your left ear. Try using a brighter highlight color once in a while, too, like on the tip of the nose, lips, forehead, etc. Human skin isn't exactly matte

Wow...that's a really awesome painting.
Only three things really struck me as odd with this one:
The first being either you have a lazy eye, or you painted his left, our right, eye very off..
The second thing would have to be his right, our left, pinky finger...compared to the rest of the digits, it seems very minute.
Lastly, it seems like you got a bit carried away with the shadows under the left eye(our right) and it makes it seem like you've got a black eye.
Aside from those three things, I think your pic kicks ass. Very, very nice job on the hands by the way.

really nice job, i like the smooth painting job you did.. Did you only use paintbrush? or did you use airbrush to smooth it out?
I like the hands, the pinky looks a bit too small though.. keep up the good work.. |

I can only say that i really like the hands.. Skin color is not too pale or too dark. I'm having problems with skin color right now painting my selfportrait.

I guess I've got a lot of issues to address.
Here's the pic I used as reference: http://funhousedigital.com/temp/fleapics/brandon01.jpg
There are a bunch more in that directory, if anyone's interested.
Nova: It's cool that you mention that contrast, because that's really what the photographer was going for. We took a bunch of pictures of me playing on playground equipment and stuff, which does make for a weird contrast with my "look".
As for the skin tones and shadows and highlights and whatnot, you can probably tell by looking at the picture that the lighting was somewhat diffused -- not a lot of strong highlight or shadow. If I were doing another pic I'd probably "invent" the highlights and shadows, but on this one, I wanted to stick as close to the original colors as possible. The bluish tone around the mouth was me trying to suggest a slight five-o'clock shadow, but I guess it didn't work. Oh yeah, and that's concrete, not snow. Sorry. :P
Golongria: Yeah, the eyes are tweaked...I couldn't get em quite right. Oh well. I see what you mean about the "black eye", but as you may be able to tell from the picture, I don't really look too far off from that most of the time. :P
