Hi everyone. I made a nifty panorama out of a few photos I took earlier today, and I thought I would share. It's about 2500x500, so make sure you scroll back and forth to see the whole thing.

No it looks just like Moscow! Like near the train station or where they were digging a new metro station.. for 5 years lol
Sweet memories of mother Russia!

That's very cool. What did you use to take the photo (digital or 35mm), and would you be opposed if I were to use it as reference in a painting?

I used a digital camera for it...
And sure, go ahead and draw from it all you like. I've actually got about 300 more pictures of this place laying around on my hard drive. If you want, I can put some more online. |

this is really great reference material! and an excellent job on the panoramic image. i work for a company that creates virtual tours of real estate properties and entertainment from panoramic images, so i work at creating them all day long.
please post more interesting reference pics.. that goes for everyone! francis's hong kong pictures were really cool too and i've already noticed 1 picture that someone painted from them.

It's an old abandoned factory compound in Milwaukee, WI (where I live.) It is unfortunately in the process of being torn down, so I'm taking all the pictures I can while I still have the chance.
I'll post some more reference pics some time tonight. |

it reminds me a lot of the old flour factory in the old port of Montreal. This place is condemn but it's absolutely amazing when you can sneak in. The silos are a bit like an industrial cathedral and when the sun gets in it's just.. fantastic.
The sound is pretty amazing as well.
more please ?

These pictures are great, I don't see how anyone couldn't be inspired when looking at such imagery.
This gives me the idea that it would be great to setup a site for reference images provided by the members here of the areas where they live. Think of how many different areas and countries are represented here. Cultural, seaport, desert, ultra-modern, forgotten. How many great places/references are lost every day that may have been perfect for you.
Good idea? Worthwhile?
hennifer: you must work for ipix... I'm the senior programmer/designer for a real estate company and that's who we use. Might be interesting for people here to have 360 bubbles of their workareas for others to get ideas from.

Hey, if anyone wants to send me reference photos like these, I can host them... (incidentally, some time soon I'll be posting some pictures of all the lovely decrepit farm houses I saw on my trip to North Carolina... Not quite as exciting as these, but still good.) |
