Hey everyone. A little update on what i'm doing lately: I left my old job over at Liquid and is now working at Blur (you know, the guys who did that dancing xbox robot, among other cool stuff). I'm working as a full-time concept artist there...and it's been awesome so far. Finally i get to draw everyday instead of doing game art.
Here's a recent un-used concept art (client changed their mind). It was drawn very quicky....so it kinda sux..hehe...but i do like the head shot.
-feng
ps. I know there are other BLUR artists that frequent this forum....let me who you are =)

Great pics Vortx, as usual. I love the nice clean style you've got for eveything even though I'm more of a sketchy type. I particularly like the whole look you get from the your paper and medium. What exactly are you working on/with on all these concept drawings?
Hehe, what's kind of amusing is the fact that you're working with Blur now, who like you said, worked on that 'dancing robot'. Well, I'm an artist working for Pipeworks, the ones who took that 'dancing robot' and changed it from the avi that Blur did into the real-time interactive application that it is now, reflections and all. Just thought that was an interesting fact that I thought I'd share. In fact, one of the other artists here was trying to get us all to challenge the guys there at Blur to a Quake 3 game since I'm told you run your own server and take all challengers, heh.
Anyways, keep up the great work man.

I'm looking forward to seeing Battle Realms, but now that they've lost a very good concept artist... it's a real shame.
Anyway, congrats for your new job, Vortx!
Btw. I hope you got finished with all your Battle Realms -characters?

nice work as always vortx I've heard about blur, if it's "blur studios" you are talking about, those who do rendered movies, effects and such ?!? They are really good, do a lot of nice plugins to 3dsmax as well. Anyway, congrats with your new job.
what paper do you use, is that the original color of it, or has it been modified in phshop ? I guess you use some brown paper or something, since you use a whitepencil for the highlights, that really brings out the character from the paper,... think I gotta buy some brownish paper

Feng: "Blur"? I was led to think that it was Pipeworks who did those xbox demos... ( http://www.pipeworks.com/gallery.html )... anyway, congrats on the new job!
Edit: Never mind.. just read flinthawk's post... wow. very cool. =)
Flinthawk: Hey, cool to see a Pipeworks guy here! You guys do a great job! Must be cool to work with Mark Crowe and the gang... dang. =) Did you also do some nVidia tech demo stuff like the toy soldier thing and tentacle-fish?

Congratulations Feng!
Seems to be a dream job, just sit and draw all day Great drawing by the way. Do you sketch first with a marker and move in later with details? I seem to recall that's the way Doug Chiang do it too.
Great drawing and good luck with the new job.

Yeah Frost, it is pretty cool here. We've got Mark Crowe working on the design for one title and our other main designer is Scott Youngblood, lead designer of Starseige:Tribes. It's a lotta fun sitting within earshot of the designer's offices, hehe. It's nice to start off in the industry with a bunch of veterans, too.
We didn't do the other two demos you mentioned though. We did, like I said, the real-time version of the robot trainer sequence, we did the butterfly garden, the ping pong ball room and a real time scene with a photorealistic computer desk full of little easter eggs that you could interact with like that office toy with the five steel balls that swing and hit each other to show how forces are transferred...well, we just just call it the klack demo. Unfortunately I was only hired on after these demos were completed so I didn't work on any of them but at least that means I'm working on actual games right now =) I'm hoping that our games get announced soon so I can finally talk about them in broad daylight. It can be fun to be secretive though, hehe.
