Hi all!! In fact that's my second try but the first one was a disaster(but I begin in drawing, just few tries in real since a week). I tried a portrait of the young Anakin but in color and after the sketch I was unable to colour it decently. That's why I decided to make a black and white picture to learn the basics.
I used a black pen with 60% of opacity and pressure combine opacity and the eraser to do that and I want to know if there is other technics. Do I need to use the same technic for the rendering?
Could you explain me what's the difference with colour?
And of course your critics or welcome...

the chick is nice
if you are going to learn the basics, I would highly recommend that you don't use photo the way you've done on this one. Don't know if it's painted on top or with the photo by the side, but to learn you need to understand what you are drawing. Therefor, draw from life, imagination, and you can do it from photo as well, but you need to build it up by analysing what you are drawing and why it is like it is. Sketch with basic shapes, that can be a good thing. Saying basics, worry about the underlying sketch before starting to shadow it....the thing is, even though you can get good at drawing girls from photos in the end, you will still sweat like hell when someone ask you to do something totally different and imagination is required.
not being harsch, it's just important for you to know this.

Hi there!
I think your image is quite good.
There are a few things I think you might want to think about. The anatomy of the girl seems to be good, but your shading is not that good. You seem to have just put some gray tones everywhere without really thinking about why...
Try to keep it simple. Not a lot of variations and texture.
Keep every surface rather flat without a lot
of variations, thus giving it some kind of cartoonish look. Shadows and highlights is a later problem.
Try to ask yourself these questions:
1. Where is my light source?
2. Where will the shadows appear?Remember to keep it simple in the beginning.
Made a little example to further show you what I mean. Hope this helps. I like your image. Keep up the good work.

It's painted with the picture by the side. I first started to draw the body with lines for proportions and after add the details, Isn't it the good way?
Are you telling me that I musn't use pictures to learn how to draw? Sorry but I'm not sure to understand exactly what you are telling me. My english is too bad.
Anyway thx for the interest... |

Imho. I think that the best way to learn how to draw is to try and copy an image done by someone else as accurately as possible. I have read this in a few books too. I think you should try that. Just don't start posting them and tell people you made the picture yourself. |
