Hey guys, please crit this image for me, I am trying to get a sense of lights and darks on a face, sort of right but lacking something maybe contrast, definition or ?. cheers.

By the way if you blur your vision slightly it look better!! just dont blur too much or you will go cross eyed. |

hey, looking good so far...
you need highlights and a definite lighsource. then you can work on contrast...
as it is it seems to be self illuminating...
(not that Im the painting pro..... )

Hi,
you're looking good so far, but I agree that the image could use some more contrast. Also, the shadows caused by the nose and the eye indicate a lightsource pretty directly from the left, but the shadow thrown by the jaw to the neck seems to come straight down, making the head seem somewhat detached from the neck.
Sorry if it's not much help..

Funny how you should mention if you squint your eyes a bit it'll look better. Look outside and squint your eyes... everything is a bit clearer. (well for me at least.. hehe im nearsighted) Anyway, my point is this. Your portrait is lacking on definition. It needs to be clearer not blurrier. Just try for more definite highlights and shadows and try not to blur and moosh it all together. |
