Hey guys and gals,
Just wanted to see if you guys would like to hold an informal competition for forum members? I have a prize and need a theme if you have the interest. The prize? Hrmmm... how about a copy of Deep Paint 3D from Right Hemisphere? http://www.righthemishpere.com
Let me know if this sounds like something you all would be interested in. Got a theme idea? Post it here!
Eric

Maybe we could go with a Dungeons and Dragons theme since the movie is just out in theaters?

i don't know about you but somehow i personally find it pretty sad to take a wet t-shirt picture out of myself for a digital art forum.
and since the nearest cool warm sunny beach is about 19 000 kilometers away..

George Costanza had a genuine idea:
"Nothing"
What about something that you don't see much of here.
No barbarians, Dragons, swords
Robots and selfportraits. That way it can become more of a challenge. A very detailed
and specific theme could be interresting. Many designers and comercial artists often works from a very specific design and theme, so it could be cool to try that.
Or am i killing all the fun?

How about
1 a drawing of your favoret animal
2 maby a something from a book you have read
3 your desk that your comp is at most messy wins
4 a re-design of the oscar award that little golden bald dude
5 your virson of a painting or drawing from your favoret artist
6 how about a picture of what your imagination would look like in your head
These are just suggestions

how about landscapes. maybe even a theme from a certain country. Japan or India for example. Maybe even famous landmarks.

Let's face it, comedy is a dead art form. Now tragedy, ha ha ha, that's funny! |

Those are some good suggestions Blitz. I feel I must clarify my original idea... I wasn't implying that you should submit pictures of YOURSELF in a wet T-shirt... I meant draw one. Anyways... how about a theme based on a song?

I like that song idea, could it be any song the person wants?
The song idea will work great... Lets do that.
BTW InDepth I was just being stupid up there, it made me laugh when I thought of writing that, and I am not one to hold back something funny sorry

well, one thing's for sure. most of the peopple suggesting something probably have it as their strength. i mean you have a guy named bg(background?) wanting to do landscapes. hehe well in that case i'd like to suggest blank expression character animations.
the link you provided in the first post here didn't work for me, but reading down i see what the original idea was. you pervert.

i agree with micke. dragons, barbarians, robots, space fields, knights in shining aromor, etc are used way too often. hell i use them my self at times.
figure studies could be a good idea, if it was kept in a classical sence rather than interpreting the figure to what you think is cool. im sure that most of you out there have a friend that could pose for you so you could paint/draw or whatever. i think that a "classical" approach to the figure could be a nice idea.
or, pieces reflecting on how technology is becoming such a great part of society and life. this does not neccessarily limit the art to robots, so there could be some great works.
or how about a work that has some serious meaning to it, without using any text or blatant words, just images that illustrate the idea and allow the person to gather their own interpretation of it based on the images in it.
i think if there were a contest that the topic should require a little more thought than just drawing a random character or scene, but to put a meaning behind it that affects others. not only would it make people grow as artists, it would encourage a lot more thought behind the art. ( im not saying that people dont do this now, i just think it would be a nice theme for a contest. )

I was thinking of maybe doing "The Ballad of Curtis Lowe" as the theme... It is a song about a poor black blues player... what do you think? I could post the lyrics and you can draw your interpretation of the song.

I was thinking more like something totally separated from who you are and what your interrests are. Customers that gives you an assigment for something are usually boring stuff, but it could still be solved in a interresting way and that's the fun part. I've noticed on Draw club that some did pictures that did'nt have anything to do with the topic and needed lines with text to be understood(mine included). It's stuff like this that would be cool to avoid. Really think before doing starting, do thumbnails and comeup with different ideas and finally pick the best one. If the artist are asked he should be able to speak for himself why he picked the final idea and why it suits the theme best. Not just
create a random good-looking drawing.
The pic should be able to speak for itself without any further explanation.
I'm up for any theme...but no random stuff.

I don't think the song idea will fly unless everyone comes up with a pic from the same song. Now that would be interesting to see how everyone can interpret the same song differently. Otherwise it would be a mess. Who would really understand a picture fully if they have never heard the song you are representing?

I totally agree with you, spyder. It should be the same song and it should be available to everybody. The lyrics could be posted here or something.

InDepth- I think Lynard Skynard (spelled?) Rocks! I especially like that song. However, how about doing a piece based on an excerpt from a book. You take a paragraph ot two and post it to the forum and everyone interprets that into a picture and like Micke said, the picture should explain everything along with the emotion, no text only pencil or brushstrokes. Just an idea. If not I think the song would be cool.
OBW I have a couple of paragraphs you could use.
