They are diffrent programs that suite diffrent needs. I find that photoshop is awsome for getting airbrushed look and fell for your paintings..you can run them through filters and use other techniques to change the look.
I find that painter can give you a good look of other mediums like water colors and oil paint and though it is a touph program to learn if you get good with it I think you get better results with painter ( just my opnion )
A program that very few people talk about is Coral photopaint..it is like painter and photoshop in one only with better tools then either program..most under rated tool in the buisness I use it everday for making game textures! |

if you're having trouble deciding between the two, my advice would be to use both in conjuction with one another and see which one works best for you. |

You guys are all stupid, Painter is better for everything, and Photoshop sucks turds.
No, I'm just kidding. I've always preferred Painter for anything resembling painting, but I'd never try editing a photo or doing any kind of graphic design with it. "What gives the coolest result when coloring?" Well, that's just a weird question. Painter gives ME what I think is a cooler result, but I'm sure not everyone would agree.

A better artist can do a better picture with just plain colors and the pen tool. All the extra stuff just makes thing easier and faster but if you don't know how to use it you might as well spend 100k on a program and you will still be shitty. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/tongue.gif) |

I like PS better, but I like Painter for the natural media look. Corel ... nothing beats Photopaint in the brush dept. It has the best system for texture and brush manipulation and application, IMO.
