I've been working on a project for about a year and it was finally given a bit of an official announcement yesterday;
http://www.gamers.com/s/feature/001205-sidrial/index
It's an animated movie being done in the machinima style - that is, it uses a game engine (Quake3).
There's lots of cool pics and a trailer at the end.

My computer crashes after opening the site. I only read the first sentences but it sounds very interesting to do movies with the Quake engine. Please post if there is another site reporting about your project. |

Suma: There is some very great work in there, both modeling and texturing... very nice indeed. |

Now, I don't want to sound like I'm pointing fingers or anything, because I definitely believe you're way above ripping someone else's artwork. But damned if those aren't practically the same image. Is Timur working on the project with you? Is this some basic Quake 3 scene that everyone but me knows about? What's the story?!?! |

waylon:
That RamTeam image was definitely an influence on that old promo image.
We were asked to make up a promotional image that introduced our three protagonists without giving away their look (this was back in about June), and the two ideas taken from Team pic were; the idea of using backlit lighting to show the characters without giving too much away, and just the idea of the characters walking towards us. Both worked really well for what we needed in the image.
Our characters were not based on the ones in Team's pic, they were designed and built over a period of 3 months or so. The bodies were actually originally based on Joachim's old ninja character (sorry Joa ), and then I designed all the clothing and armor on top of that basic shape (although ultimately the characters, especially the female, were brought back to the more human proportions). The final head design was picked out from a sheet of about 100 alien heads that I drew.
Was it a rippoff? Well, I'd never actually thought about it like that, it was really a case of "something like this would work for that image we need."

I wish that Lithtech Film Producer was available for Q3A, it'd probably save us a lot of work.

no kidding, we are doing a ton of pre-production work in q2, and we are hoping to be able to port over to lithtech when it comes out.
*crosses fingers
one of the nice things about working with a big name like overman is that we are in there pretty tight with good ole' hugh hancock :P
galen: what game do you refer to? lithtech? cause it's not a game, just an engine. it's primary function will be for movie making, but im sure some game companies will buy it also, it's dang beautiful from what i've seen.
check out http://www.strangecompany.org/ for more info on lithtech.

Overman is the main guy behind Father Frags Best, prolly THE best piece of Machinima out there (Caution: I'm on the ZS team aswell, so I may be a little biased @;-), and Hugh Hancock is a big wig at Strange Company and man behind Machinima.com.
Lithtech is an intriguing package. I'm currently a tester (tho not getting much testing done due to this bloody computer), and it's shaping up to be rather yumm. Keep your eye out people.
Suma, I am looking forward to this piece of machinima muchly. Using the Q3 engine for it is a bold move indeed (and quite a technical one at that). Good luck with it all, and definately keep us informed. @:-)
