Hi, Im a newbie obviously since this is my one and only post so far. I just wanted to introduce my self, Im an Arizona State University student, majoring in drawing. I just recently took up photoshop and found this sight. I just now got up the guts to post my newest character design.
this is a ninja that i recently created, I tried to make him appear somewhat futuristic, but still keep that low tech ninja look. Any feedback would be great. Thanks! |

heh, i'm a ninja too
nice form and anotomy on the body. it's exaggerated slighty, which makes of r some nice shapes and everything. i'm thinking that since you use linework for a few things (gun, boots, etc) you should incorporate more of those lines into the rest of the image more. pick a light source, though. if you're going for a single ambient light, make less shadow around the torso area, and more outline, midtones and highlight.

The texture work on the boots, sword, shoulder pads, and visor are very nice and provide a wonderful contrast to the minimal texturing on the body suit.
I would however suggest thinning up the handle of the sword. Right now its gigantic and would prove to be very difficult to hang on to. Also when you thin it up, try adding another inch to it to make it easier for the guy to weild with both hands.

Kinda cool if you liked the turtles rendition, but I don't get it - the real Ninja were far cooler without any exaggeration!

i personally wouldn't touch the sword, exagered weapons/hands/feet are a STYLE, nothing that needs correction in my eyes. |

Great work otaku
The shadings on the main body could use some work but still it's great! |

hmmm. not being funny but it looks like you used Agent44's characters Shyne88 and Katana12 for reference on the anatomy and pose. If so, you should say so next time

Cos.. not sure if you looked at those pics recently, but he didn't copy them (atleast not directly). The pose is pretty standard when you do concepts and that style of anatomy is pretty common.
The only knock I have against this is.. for a concept it is all pretty unoriginal. Other than that it is a good drawing.

chapel as soon as i saw this pic it heavily reminded me of agent44's characters, so i looked at them before i posted my comment.
I can see its not a direct copy but stuff like the boots, position of the legs, forearms, etc on shyne88 reminded me alot of it...
Anyway, I'm not saying its a copy, just if you gonna use someones pic for reference (maybe u did, maybe u didn't) then dont forget to mention that

thanks for the input guys, Actually if any one has been an influience on my art it would be joe madureira, who alot of you probably know is a comicbook artsit, Ive been doing stuff like this for a while now. in the comic book industry amoung others I understand this to be a pretty normal pose for character designs.
Your right it kinda does look like snake eyes I never even knoticed that.
But while i do admire Agent44's stuff I was in now way trying to draw like him or anyone else |
