Here's my Showdown pic, I post it here too because the Draw Club thread aint a real good place to get feedback

I was going to do a sci-fi showdown but I changed my mind. I think I did a whole lot better with the snow on this one than past efforts after realizing that snow behaves more like wind-eroded stone than whipped cream

Damn I love that shit I think it would look a graet deal better if you put splotches of snow on the clothes to show the battle has been hard. Also, a little bit of icy breath coming from the orc to show that he's been running hard as well.. snow looks too white for a great battle[e]shove in some blood![/e]... and also, where's the orc going? Well....i really like the detail and composition. and the background go OrcS!

[e] btw, where's the foortprints?! The snows gotta have footprints! Stick in some frozen bodies... heheehe j/p [/e]

Your pictures get more epic all the time!.
We have ourselves a little scene in which to immerse into.
No real crits.
Like the little background antics going on, nothing like a bit of mayhem!.
This is cool shit : Sexy chicks, violence, muscle montsa green dudes and a snowy scape in which it all takes place!.

(Does she get him, or does she get axed?)

Kick-ass image you got there. Another fan right here
I especially like your comics you've done. As for a crit, well, I think I can agree with EvilToylet on putting some snow on their legs to help them blend into the environment more. Great work!

Wow!It's looking great I've always liked
your comics too. You have the ability to really suck the viewer into your scenes.
The snow and hazing adds a really cool feel to the picture.
I would maybe make the girls facial expression more scared or something, right now she looks a little bit too relaxed.
Another suggestion is that you could simulate the warm air comming out from that
Orc's mouth. Not a big thing really, but i think it could add more to the drama.
Again, very good.

This is a great illustration. The atmospheric effects and the level of detail in the bg (or lack thereof) is perfect. Really makes you focus on the characters.

Suggestions:
icy breaths, more snow on clothes (especially ankles/shins, and maybe tweak the girl's face a little to show more fear, anger, desperation, or whatever. have her mouth open, maybe teeth clenched.

Otherwise, it's great winter frolikking fun!

Thanks for the feedback fellas!

I'll probably edit the pic here and work on adding some stuff to coincide with your crits because you all had solid points. More blood, more snow (on the figures), footprints (which will help to show where he's goin') And some more defined frost breath. I actually made her real stone-faced on purpose. She's pretty fearless Not sure to do with the axe though.

And Chapel, I'm 24 and I build ads for a newspaper and some editorial illustrations for a local magazine. Trying to aim a little higher tho

Thanks again!

Damn that's nice. I love the mass of the orc. He looks like a real killer. I would make the archer a little more intense though. She just saw her buddy go down. Give her a little aggressive sneer, maybe. Make her REALLY drawing that bow back, holding it at a hasty, near-horizontal postition. She looks kind of nonchalant.
Well, then again, maybe she's just cool. Good work.

Very very nice Flex! Your lineart is always very impressive -- nice characters.

The coloring/lighting at some parts could have been worked I think, but, the rock texture and lighting is very nice, it almost stands out from the rest. =)

You've been making me feel like a slacker and loser lately, your stuff is excellent (along with Francis, Micke, Joachim, etc.) - very nice! Keep up the great work!

VERY nice. extremely well done

but, not to be nitpicky, but you have her holding the arrow with her thumb...now i have no real idea of what i'm saying here (because i've only shot a bow once in my life) but shouldnt the arrow be resting on top of the thumb??

Very nice work again, flex! I especially like the background with the boulder and the silhouettes of the battle. Colors and materials are very good, IMO. The only thing i might crit in this one is the expression of the characters (facial exp. and pose). The heroine does not appear to be in any danger, looks like she's attending a competition with her bow. And the orc looks rather pissed off with her aiming at him instead of raving towards her to prevent the killing shot or ducking to avoid it.
Still it's awesome, so don't feel bad about my comments!

I'll probably be tweaking a couple things tonight on it with. I actually made her real expressionless on purpose but it seems to be the most common crit so I'll throw a little emotion her way

That is going into my collection. The axe looks too small. That is something like a hand axe he need a good axe or a battleaxe.

OK, I fixed some of the stuff you guys mentioned in your crits.

1> Gave her a grimmace
2> Added snow clinging to clothing
3> More blood >:]
4> Made Alduug the Foul Winded's axe a bit larger.
5> Made some footprints.
6> Added warm breath from Alduug's mouth.
7> {EDIT} Oh yeah and I gave her a quiver for more arrows. HEhehehehhehHEHEHHEHhehe.

If you've been here before.. just need to refresh

I think, even though the changes were minor, that the picture is a lot better now thanks to your feedback guys. Million thanks!

Alduug, the foul winded! Hahaha!
Good job on the improvements, more intense now; tells its story better, IMO.

OMG! You're getting better at every drawing you show on here!
Great composition!
The only crit I can do is about the girl's right arm which seems to be a bit tweaked, but overall it's amazing!

Great pic!

But... there is something wrong about the orc's tounge and i'm quite sure his right axe is not in the appropriate angle.
I still remember your "how do i draw snow?" post, he he.

Well, carry on... please...

oh man, this kicks, high and hard.
I too like the figures in the atmosphere effect in the background very much.

I think the pic would be even better if you added some color variations here and there. maybe adding some more bluish tones to the snow, along with some warmer tones? And maybe some more contrasting light effects?

It is a great image flex, don't stop making them roll!

Pierre

Double Wow!!!

This picture does hit hard. I see a few proportional errors and pose wierdness on the woman, but it can't take ANYTHING away from how animated that orc warrior is.

And then, I read all the comments or skimmed em, and I noticed that the orc was following that guy (his blood was dripping) who must've fallen on the ground and then the lady is going to put a shaft in his skull... it tells a story! Woo! Yow! He is so dead!

[Crits]:

- Her left arm appears to have a short lower arm (or maybe everybody else on this forum draws long, slender arms)

- The way she is holding the feather of the arrow with the one hand doesn't seem to convey much tension or grip... and the wrist and hand may be positioned wrong... I'm not sure how to operate a longbow.

- Her left thumb is over the arrow shaft... is that how you shoot an arrow? (again, I dunno... it just seems painful for when she lets it loose, even feathers can hurt!)

- The orc's tongue needs some shading or diffuse shadowing on the bottom. The way it is now makes it look like the tongue starts right at the back of his teeth.

- I know you painted the snow on their legs and capes really fast, but you probably already know it doesn't stick to boots like paint. Instead, it cracks like parched dirt as the leather is creased from walking. This is just for you to keep in mind for your next snowscape.

Other than these crits, I see lots of great differentiation between texture and color and lighting and wow! That and the great story it tells. (and the orc is actually in a running position, not a wide stance!)

Cool cool! Thanks again guys for your crits. I modified the blaring stuff I read and re-upped the image.
