This isn't exactly art, but it is a cool technical thing that can relate to your art, so I figured I'd post it.

The following image is a 300 by 300 black square with an alpha channel.



Cool, eh? I thought so too. That's the PNG (pronounced "ping") format. This is really easy to do, also. All you do is create a standard Photoshop image with its layers flattened and an alpha channel. To see the same image against a standard white background, click here. And it's lossless too.

png's transparency is cool.
too bad you can't store animation frames in them.

If I remember right, the updated engine for Tribes2 uses png format for texture files. They were going to use the alpha channel as a reflective map. I think black was chrome, white is matte, so you could have reflective areas on your skins, like Oakleys, shiney armor, or if you make the alpha all black you'd have the T-1000.
Man I wish that game was out already!

Just put all the screenshots together and you will have a 30 minute gameplay movie

Man, I guess I should download NS 6 so I can see this.

Do you mean that th epicture on top is half-transparent? Can somebody post a picture of how it looks like in Netscrape cause i dont wanna have anything to do with that POS program!

I don't know about you guys, but I'm using IE 5 on the mac, and that shows up just fine...

And, if'n you can't see it, here's how it looks.

best be telling me how to fix this POS!!!
Maybe i clicked something somewhere that turned off PNG transparency? You know i don't wanna miss out while there are so many websites using PNG transparency layers!!!!!
