these are two sketches that im working on coloring. my friend, a very talented anime type artist, is working on some characters and the other one (angel) is mine, you can deffinately tell the difference in moods here eh? anyways, i need some tips on coloring them.. do most of you use the pen tool in photoshop to achieve the nice lines or do you just transfer the image? also please tell me what you think of the images.

I generally retrace over the image completely in photoshop. Everything is easier to manage and change if you keep it all on separate layers. Then I when I color I use flat colors to begin with and then go back and use the airbrush or paintbrush to add shadows and highlights. Seems like most people develop their own way of coloring.
