We finally got some snow here in Germany
It didn't even last a day but it was fun anyways. I love the look of snowy landscapes.
A friend of mine and I took the opportunity to do some driving tests on the Karlsruhes feast square . Was fun as hell. I love doing 180 degrees slides on slippery surfaces in a car

Oh well..... a Volkswagen Lupo. Something really, really small. But we were just returning from the movies and we didn't want to get another car just for that purpose.
What did you drive ?

Bite me.
It is currently -22.4 degrees Celcius outside. With the windchill factor, it feels like -40C.
Sure, it's pretty when it's snowy outside, but it suddenly stops being fun when you have to walk a kilometer to the nearest busstop in it...

Well. I never said that low temperatures rule. But when we get snow the temperature almost never drops below -10 degrees Celsius.
Yesterday it was probably around 0 degrees. So that's why it ruled.

Yeah, we had an Audi 100, the A4's predecessor once, a really nice vehicle.

It really is something special to have snow in Karlsruhe. I used to live there and there's usually about one day of snow the whole year. So you did the right thing enjoying it as hell!

Now I live in Berlin and it snows a little more often. Which is good. Except that it's really nasty when there's no snow...

Bugscratch: Our apartment was directly across Schauburg cinema. The coolest place to live in Karlsruhe (at least at that time; I hear today they aren't as good as they used to be).
But still I miss Karlsruhe. A lot of my friends still live there.

peter: thanks I love that movie ("A Bug's Life" by the way for all you people who don't know German). I guess the movie kind of influenced me when choosing that name. And I like the way it sounds.

raupe, directly across the street from the Schauburg theatre is certainly a goddam fucking great place to live
I still go to the Schauburg a lot, even though we now have a new 10 screens movie theather at the Brauerstrae....
But you're right the whole quarter there is in decline, I wouldn't want to live there nowadays.
By the way, both the Luxor and the Kamera theatres closed, maybe you'll remember them. I don't miss the Luxor, but the Kamera is dearly missed....
At what time did you live in Karlsruhe ?

I couldn't have expressed it better

I heard about the Kamera. I don't understand why they didn't close one of the other crap theatres instead.

I moved to Berlin about a year and a half ago. Before that I had lived in Karlsruhe for 3.5 years. I'm sure you agree that that (1996-1999) was the best time you could ever live in Karlsruhe across the Schauburg. *sigh*

Well.... you'll be even more shocked when you hear the reason for the Kamera's closure.
The Kamera consisted of 2 parts: the lobby and the theatre. And the reason why it had to close was that the Sparkasse Karlsruhe, who owns the lobby part did not agree to continue the rental agreement for that part. So what the Kamera is missing now is an entrance, and that's why it had to close.
That's one sick reason to close a perfectly good theatre.
And I'll agree about the best time part. Even though you should know that right now the renovating work in the Schauburg is actually progressing for the first time in maybe 2 years

You don't believe it. They close it because of stupid bureaucracy. They still could've sold the tickets at the fire exit and make the people come in that way

I really hope they'll get the Schauburg going again. It has definitely deserved it! I can't count how many hours I've spent in there. And perhaps one day I'll live in Karlsruhe again and it'll all be as cool as it was before.

By the way, have you ever seen "Muellers Buero" or "Eat the Rich" ? I've never seen anything like that before or afterwards.

Well here in the hamlet of Katonah New York, we have two feet of wet snow on the ground, and today it's 40 degrees, but I prefer trudging a kilometer in -22.

Brue, my Alberta comrade, if you've lived in BC for a while, then you'd know there's SOooOOoOO LITTLE snow here!
The worse thing is that when the weather network said it's gonna snow, it frigg'n DIDN'T!

I'm in Denver and after having freezing rain most of the night, there are a few inches of powder coming down. It's not fun driving to/from work in traffic with all the idiots, but once I get home I'll find a nice empty parking lot and do some powerslides with my Subie RS. Can't wait!

And this weekend is the Cardboard Derby up at A-Basin. It's this competition where people build a snow-worthy craft out of cardboard, tape, glue and imagination, and race down a specially-prepared run. It's a blast!

Later,
-artboy

I live in Sweden. It's really cold here, but no snow. Just some sprinkles of white powder blowing around in the street.

I was in Norway two weeks ago though, in Trysil, snowboarding. That was great. There was like 1,5 meter of snow everywhere.
