So I've been working on getting my heads to look correct. A lot of them (after looking at them through a mirror) look like they're being pulled down towards the lower left. But I think I figured out why. I think it's because the chin on that half of the head doesn't go directly up at the half head line, but wonders left and then up.. if that makes any sense..
Anyone have any advice about proportions? I was mainly trying to get the shape of the head to look right in all of these. Any help would be super cool.
more here.. go on now.. go on.. http://www.geocities.com/wormtv/heads/ |

This is a good start. If you are not using reference then you need to really study the anatomy of head. The key ones are zygomatic bones, superciallary arch, mandible, maxilla and frontal bone. Also, remember that the eyes are set into the orbital cavity.
The other thing to remember is if the head is not in a straight on view then perspective comes into play. This will make the features of the head look smaller when even slightly turned.
The eyes are usually places in the middle of the head. Some of your heads look chopped off. However, remember that the hairline will go lower then the top of the head. Also, in a younger head the eyes will be even lower. You can also divide the bottom of the head into 3rds for the nose, mouth, and chin.
The mouth generally goes to the center of the eyes in a straight on front view. This may be surprising but the mouth gets smaller as well at the ends.
The head is about 5 eyes wide with an eye space between the two eyes.
Hmm.. anyway try looking for the forms underneat the skin. Also, get some good books on head anatomy and keep practicing!
