I thought I'd put some conscious thought into setting up a good lighting scheme before I started rendering this image. I'm not sure if this is the best lighting, however. I scribbled up a basic setup, and would appreciate some advice or suggestions on if and where I messed up before I start to render..
Here's a flat colored image if you'd like to mess with it.. http://www.xcaliburstudios.com/images/swordgirlflat.gif
This is what I started doing before I decided to put some thought into lighting.. http://www.xcaliburstudios.com/images/swordgirlpartial.jpg
Would love some suggestions on most effective lighting setup for this pose. Thanks!

It's a really cool picture to start off with! But before you start the render I would change a couple of things to prevent them from bugging you in the later version;
Her upper right arm is too long and fat at the elbow, her armour is not that fat on the other and the way her body is turned it would be more behind.
 Her right hand is a little too wide as well.
 Her katana base is only half there! (If the hair is hiding it, it shouldn't be as that would be further back.
If I were you I would also improve on this in the following ways;
 Make a backgrund before you develop it further and render a high contrast shadow on a (tiled?) floor and down that side of her body.
 Make the cloak more dramatically 'blown' rather than just 'swung' to fit with her (wet?) hair.
Whatever you do make it full of contrast and keep the definition sharp on the righ hand side of the picture - it's great already!
(Damn, I wish I had a page to post my version to you now!!)

Evil: She has tan go-go pants on
Budoka: Thanks for your keenly-observed suggestions. I'll work on the right arm.
