This is a oil painting that I did right after I graduated art school. I made it as a sample to get work.
The girl in the illustration is one of my X-girl friends and the guy in the pot was me posing.
It was painted before we broke up. Ironically this image is close to how it happened. Maybe I jinxed myself. -LOL

Voodoo Lady
Shakin' that stick and drivin' me crazy
Your eyes look red and hazy
Doin' that stuff that you do
Messin' me up with your voodoo
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie oogie oogie oogie oogie
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie boogie boogie

Your lips are hot and spicy
Servin' up red beans and rice
At midnite she's a' howlin' and stompin'
Makin' love to the gators in the swampin'
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie oogie oogie oogie oogie
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie boogie boogie

I feel you now inside me
Never once did you deny me
Doin' that stuff taht you do
Knockin' me out with your voodoo
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie oogie oogie oogie oogie
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie boogie boogie

Voodoo Lady
Shakin' that stick and drivin' me crazy
Your eyes look red and hazy
Doin' that stuff that you do
Messin' me up with your voodoo
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie oogie oogie oogie oogie
You drive me crazy with that
Boogie boogie boogie

Wildkat- This work was done in oils on a peace of masonite 18" by 24".

Lukias- At the time this was done I was (and still am) a big fan of 70's fantasy. I would tell you who but I don't want to be so obvious.
I was also looking at a lot of old masters stuff. I live close to NY and I was going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art a lot for insparation. If anyones is in the area there is a Rubens battle scene there the size of a wall that is so real it would make you creame in you paints.

Very nice! Her arms/hands look just a little small/short, IMO. The arms in the pot are fantastic. Though the light on them doesn't totally make sense. But it supports the mood of the pic, so who cares.

Yeah, women...mine left me bout a month ago after two happy years. Gotta do a painting on that too. Nice way to deal with the poison.

Shadowman,

I like what you did here. There are some issues with the proportions on the girl, in her arms, her upper body and her head. I think that are overall too small. I think the body parts in the pot are really good. I think overall the piece is good, I just think the lighting is sort of blown out. You should make the major light source come from the fire. And definitely get some reference for fire, right now what you have sort of resembles blades of grass????

Do you prefer to do this kind of work, as opposed to digital work?

I showed it to my girlfriend and she liked it alot, I think I saw that girl at Tequila Joes

later

Jaymo- Pain and personal anguish is the best way to get yourself in the right mood to do some killer art. It really brings out the emotion. - just kidding.
I like your comment about the lighting bringing out the mood because that was the effect I was going for

General- as far as what I like better digital or oil painting. I like both for different reasons. As of this time I'm not ready to choose one or the other. I would actually like to be equally good at both. Some day when I'm old and retired I would love to live in one of those artist resting homes and paint all day.
