[EDIT] See Below for a new version[/EDIT]
Heya,
I don't think I ever properly introduced myself to the forum.
I work for GameSpy doing web design/development. I also run The Texture Studio, though I haven't produced any textures in quite awhile.
This forum inspired me to pick up a pencil and actually work on a piece of illustration, something I haven't done since I dropped out of Pratt in 1995. So uh... be proud of yourselves or something.
Anyway, I could use some help with the sketch. I know the proportions and anatomy are off in places (probably many), but it's been quite awhile since I had access to other illustrators who could help point out the flaws. I could use some help with the knees. Not sure how to get them looking right.
If anyone has any tips, or wants to do a "drawover" thing, or whatever, I'd certainly appreciate it. I know it's not that great, and I'm somewhat nervous to even be posting it here, but the feedback I've seen on other's work has general been constructive, so I thought I'd go ahead.
Woo.
Thanks!
-shai
EDIT - forgot to mention the knees the first time.

Hey and welcome to the forum, nice pencil drawing but yea there are some anatomy issues. The shoulders point up too much, more so his left one. His pecks are hmmm too wide for his form, i think. also the tricep and bicep done look right on his right arm. YOu should probably pick up an anatomy book that should help a great deal. the face looks good though i like the whole head.
i did a quick drawover depicting what i meant about the anatomy, i'm not expert on this stuff but it's what "i" saw

I personally would make a smaller head so he looks taller. And the hand is in a different ground than the legs, like if it's inside something rather than helping him to keep in place.

Hey Shathis, I've always wanted to speak with the man who's created one of the most fabulous web designs I've seen. The Planet sub and primary site designs are amazingly versitile yet wonderfly simplistic. Ever since you started switching to the newer designs I've begun to find an interest in serious web design myself. Almost everything I've learned I've discovered by picking apart your sites. Scalability and Simplicity is my design mantra these days and I honestly cant thank you enough!
I dont mean to come off as a brown noser, I just cant thank you enough.

Coconut - Hey, thanks for the welcome and the suggestions. Looking at it now, I agree that the shoulders and pecs are skewed. I'll work on them.
Ragnarok - I actually have already lowered the size of the head digitally. It was way too large when I sketched it. I'll see what I can do with that, and with his hand. Thanks!
immi - Yeh, that was me. Loonygames isn't updated anymore, so it'd be hard for me to do a column for them. I do a lot of writing for GameSpy.com, but not much of it is art related. I just got back into doing digital art after taking almost two years off.
N Pak - As much as I'd like to take credit, the Planet design was created by Walter |2| Costinak (the same guy who did the Blue's News logo, for example). The site design I've worked on the most is the one in use for GameSpy.com, 3DAP.com, and a bunch of other sites. I collaborated with |2| on that, but most of the design is mine.
Thanks all of you for the comments, criticisms, and well wishes. Anyone else have anything to say about this sketch?

shamelessly bumping mine back up. I'll only do this once... but I'm really hoping there's someone out there who can give me a suggestion with the knees.

(going to go ahead and start working on an "inked" version regardless) |

looks too primitive and down tuned.

agreed, Faust. I'll probably make it more ornate in the inked version.

Okay, digitally cleaned up and altered the sketch to take into account some of the comments here. Used photoshop and a tablet to do it. Woohoo.
Fixed: Shoulders, Torso width, Head size, Hand positioning.
Any comments/crits?
