I'm in tears here.

Been working on a stupid picture. For a long while. Almost finished.

Almost done.

Just the last, pretty, neat, touch-ups, and then, I was going to send it off to the person I had made it for.

And what happens? Yeah...

...well...

...the stupid, damn, ugly, bloody computer decides to crash.

I'm shaking. Damn, damn, damn. The file vanished. Just gone. Like that. Latest version: two days ago. It was almost finished! I'll never be able to make it that pretty again!

Sorry, I don't wanna whine, but damn, this sucks. I'm...agh...oh hell... *unhappy, unhappy, unhappy whimper*

It's gone all right.

I was in the process of saving it (Ctrl+s) for the umpteenth time (I'm always terrified of losing pictures) when a window suddenly popped up and told me my hard disk was full and it couldn't finish the save.

I got pretty confused because it SHOULDN'T be, and went to delete some files. Then the computer crashed.

File was gone.

It's name still existed in the "recently used files" folder as a shortcut, but the stupid picture was gone.

*sniffle*

Picture has to be finished the day after tomorrow.

I do have a previously saved version...

...minus all the nifty stuff like hair, features, shadows... yeah, you know, the things that make a picture worthwhile...

thanks anyway though *weak smile*

It was very much "the" picture.

I'm working on it at a ridiculously rushed speed now.

Thus, no ICQ.

ARG! THE picture. It was so beautiful, too... so frustrating.

That said, despair not. I have every bit of faith in your ability to work your magic. Don't worry if it doesn't come out exactly as it was before. All that matters is that it's a picture you're happy with, not that it's exactly the same picture. I know it's not easy to think pleasant thoughts, under the circumstances, but as long as you don't think about the task at hand once again too much, it'll be okay. I recommend destracting your mind with that oh so soothing Sleepy Hollow soundtrack.

Just take a deeeep breath, and relax. You've done it before, and I know you can do it again.

*in light of the lack of ICQ, dons his cuddley teddy bear outfit, and cheers her on silently.*

Seems I work best under stress. Or something.

Thanks for the support everyone...

...I think I'll manage to get the pic done in time (since I worked on it nonstop since the newest version finished). She's now got hair, and he has lashes again. You might get to see the picture sometime.

I actually used the 800 pixels high jpeg image I had sent to a friend to get it right... Too tired to get into the details right now.

*yawns and crawls off to bed*

it would be neat if you could mix programs...

then you could mix PS with Painter 6. because painter 6 sucks, BUT it has an auto-save(only works in movie mode).

every time the picture updates its automatically save so that the only thing ever missing when your comp crashes is the very last line you drew...hopefully your not drawing the entire picture in one line.

back up, cvs system, non-local drives, nt4, all these little things that seem quite ridiculous can save lives.

And pehaps, someday in the distant future, you might find yourself thanking God for this.

Don't get too dissapointed, yet. (btw, I've been through worse ... if it were any consolation, once, just a couple of weeks ago, I lost a website I had been working for 6 months. Yes. 6 months ! Fancy that.)

or have a program back up your whole file server without you having to even think about it.

oh, poor Enayla... it is so supremely sad when a thing like that happens. and even though it could seem like you couldn't do it again as well, there's a good chance that you can. that's what I always find anyway. It's often better the second time around.

Enayla, gods I sympathis with you and say only this...

DOWN WITH BILL GATES!

One question to anyone in particular, if it's just a random crash, where does Photoshop store the file until the save? I lost a picture yesterday which I spent hours over... I want it back.

In scratch file wherever you specified it to be. But you aing getting your picture out of there! Even if it somehow stayed undeleted, there are no programs that can filter out imagery as complex as photoshop produces (it's not like regular BMPs you kniow.. we have layers, effects)
