Here's a couple of pictures of a new realtime character..I've gathered lot's of
research materials. I'm mostly doing it to try and improve my realtime modeling.
Only the Body, neck and helmet is texturemapped at the moment. The model consists of 1200 polygons, but i know i can reduce a couple of hundred polygons on the rocketpack.
What do you think so far?

Looks great micke. Nice texturing. Shouldn't the front of the helmet be a little more sloped though? Looks a little too straight down.

Awesome Micke! Textures painted, captured from photo, or both?

Im- Not to be picky or anything, but is there a reason you've posted a 3D gun in a thread about Micke's Boba Fett model?

Looks very good already. Unfortunately I do neither have enough experience with lo-poly modeling to tell if the amount of polygons is within tolerable numbers, nor if the model will work well when animated. But I trust you do... Concerning the model I'd expect less visual quality from any recent starwars game. Good job.

Thanks for the comments
Chapel, yeah i think i see what you mean.
It's a work in progress so there is a lot's of more things to do.
Rob M:Thank you. The textures are painted from scratch after using the Starwars chronicles as referance(the SW bible).
Bizarde: Thanks a lot! Do you have any new drawings in work? Would love to see'em.
Jaymo: The average count is i guess 500-2000
polygons on characters on the Pc(i think) in IGI atleast we used 500-maximum 600. I'm gonna ask Joachim if he can animate this one
for me.
Skins is comming up when they're done.

Wow Micke, I can't believe those are hand painted! One would be hard pressed to differentiate them from a good photo scan!

Very good looking textures so far. The model looks fine too. Can't find anything to pick on, for now.

micke: dang! paint mine too man! haha that's way cool. Yeah there was no battle-damage on the one i have >:/

I've been getting set up in Los Angeles! Just got a job out here with www.z.com doing animation and stuff.

I don't really post much here anymore because the feedback isn't really helpful or anything for an animator. I work weeks on a project and get like 10 replies of "cool" as if it was a quick painting I did and then it sinks to the bottom. Grew tired of that heheh BTW no hard feelings to anyone who actually posted the mentioned feedback, it's nothing personal and it WAS appreciated.

keep up the great work, micke. your low poly characters are fucking amazing and almost look like they are a trillion polys with your combined ability of texturing. bravo!!! You'd have no trouble joining a huge game company out here and being a director.

Hey Micke,

Very nice. I love the texture work. How many texture sheets are you planning to have? Is this just for fun or for some kinda mod thing (eg. UT, Quake3, etc)? I'll love to have this model for counterstrike! hehe

I played the demo of IGI over the weekend. Great game. Yeah, it's got some AI issues, but the engine looks great. The environment felt real. All the animations (especially the death ones), were cool! Did you read the forum on Dailyradar? People are loving it...

Sorry for being MIA lately....been working hard on some side projects that i can't post. Hopefully i'll get some free time during the X-Mas break to draw some personal work.

-feng

ps. What's going on w/ the forum? Been gone for a week, and i only reconize 4 or 5 people. The posts are getting weird too....hmm...

Good work Micke! What makes your poly characters alive is the texturing you're making for them. It seems a lot more defined with the textures, more like if it was done with lot more polygons.

Oh! BTW we posted a review of Project IGI demo on our Italian online magazine http://www.hateseed.com/
I doubt you could really be interested about it because it's in Italian and I dare you try to understand it

Just a crit to the demo.. it whenever an enemy enters your viewing angle, the game slows down significantly (It's running on a GeForce w/a P2-350 and I know it's not the best hardware around, but Q3 or Rune or Soldier of Fortune go fast as hell however)
I hope the final version of your game engine would be faster

That's the only crit to the game I could do. Overall it's amazing. Lots of details and an interesting gameplay.

c'ya!

Is there anything you don't kick ass at? The textures are great. Any possibility this could get into being a q3 model perhaps?

Synj:Congrats with the Job!
By the way, i dont know if you've been to this forum before: http://pub34.ezboard.com/btheanimatedboard
It's a animation forum that an old colleague
started. Check it out and see if you like it.
I believe that the guys there allready knows who you are
Doing movies is hard work and i understand what you mean with that. I remember when we did Ninja 2. It took 3 month. timing, animation and soundeffects, storyboarding...

Hey, Vortx
The model is just an try to improve myself
to model realtime.I'm not quite sure how i convert models to counterstrike models, but it would be cool. Quake 3 allready have a pretty cool Boba Fett model.

Yeah, i'm not quite sure myselfwhat's going on. There's less and less people and there's talk about starting a new elite forum an god knows what. I have some stuff too that Joachim and i have been working with. I can't show them either until a month or so..
glad you liked the demo. Finally the project is over and i'm gonna have a full month off
Keep in touch
Tanis: Thank you!
I added some smoothing groups to the model wich alouds the character too look more smooth. Italian is a bit hard to understand for me, but it's cool that you put it up
I hope it will run faster myself.
Plop:Thank you..I don't know how to convert it, but i would gladly let anybody try when i'm done.

This is so great, Micke, it looks a whole lot better than my stupid 3D head with 3 minutes of texture work. Then again, it can only get better... Keep it up, your work is inspiring.

Can anybody please put this character into Tekken for me? Hours of fun....

Keep posting progress on this one!

I'm really interested to see how you develop the leg textures. On the textureless poses, they seem pretty square and orthoganol (stiff in other words) but the helmet also looks kind of plain and stiff until the texture is applied, then BAMMO! It gains much from the shaded region where his cheeks would be on his helmet (which is also in the geometry, yummy! In 10 years, we'll be real-time modelling the pores in skin :P).

I know you constructed him with weird posture so construction would be easier, just don't forget to make him stoop a bit at the end -- that jetpack is a backbreaker!!

Put a bump map on that vest too. You never know when games will finally start using those by default.
