I don't care to go into much detail about why I drew this, I think you can probably figure it out for yourself .. but for about 30 minutes total I don't think it's too bad. I need some ideas about what I can do in the background, drawing the inside of a human body, even if I'm not going for sheer realism, is proving quite difficult. I'm not very good with shading so that won't fly either. Any suggestions, and open to criticisms about it too, just not too harsh for obvious reasons.

depends upon the feel you want. An organic texture springs to mind such that you'd be within someones chest. You see the heart and the background is the 'wall' of the chest cavity - less all the other organs and the like.
Otherwise you could have it in the center of a dark and eerie forest with evil looking trees all the way around it.
