I saw your pics in the topic... I think it was "what about girls"... or something like that. You did an amazing job on the hair. You can actually see each strend. Now, was this done with this wacom tablet? I don't have one of those things, so I use the mouse, and I just can't seem to be able to do stuff with the mouse. Take a look at this pic, for example.
Part of the reason I can't do the hair right, is cuz I set the dpi too low, and is too pixelated if I zoom in, but the major prob, is that I can't get the line right. I try to do a diagonal line with the mouse, and I NEVER can do it right! This makes for a lot of undoing when I try to draw or blend to do the hair. If I use the wacom tablet, would this prob be solved? I just can't control the lines with the mouse. I want to know if the tablet is really worth it. I've seen some things that were done with the tablet, and they're amazing. Is tablet really essential to be able to do the tiny details? Is it like drawing with a pencil? Do you draw on the monitor or something?
Another question. In photoshop, is the airbrush tool any good? I've seen some pics that use the airbrush tool, and the shading is very smooth. If you see my pic above, the shading is not very smooth.(Actually, I don't want that pic to be smooth. But I just wanted to know.) Is it better than the paintbrush tool if I wanted to do something with smooth shading?
Last q. How long does it take to do those pics? Did it take more than 10 hours? I just don't have the patience to do every little detail, I don't like to draw, so I tend to rush things. You can see that my pics were rushed. How did you learn to be so patient while drawing?

Dum dee dum! I'll help you answer some of these questions... well.. first of all, it is common practice for many digital artists to start an image about 2x bigger than they originally want it...and then when they're done they can shrink it down so the values blend and it looks better. But, as for diagonal lines, you should try that path tool in photoshop, it IS really dandy. The tablet, in my opinion is actually a worthy investment but it isn't necessary to produce great art. There have been MANY great pieces done with soley a mouse. Remember, it isn't the tools the artist uses, its the artist. And .... yah, a tablet is like drawing with a pencil, cept a bit harder as it takes a while to get used to and also, as for diagonal lines, it'll only be as diagonal as you can draw with a pencil.
The airbrush tool is good if used properly. If you haven't, take a look at some of Shane's work at http://www.planetshane.com and go to the princess amidala pic.. that was done with airbrush i belive. Anyway, hope i answered some of your questions.

When I said diagonal line, I didn't meant a straight line. Ok, how can I put this. Um let's say that I see a line in the picture. It's a diagonal line, but it curves. Now I can draw a line with a pencil and make my line look exactly like the original line. BUT when I try to do something with the mouse, I tend to mess during the middle. Sometimes, I move the mouse up, and it moves slightly to the left. I hope I explained this right. It's really hard to do anything right since I can't move the mouse right.

Ahhh..... in otherwords you mean a curve.. if you can draw it right with a pencil you should be able to do it with the tablet. But, with a mouse.an alternative is to use the pen tool(i think thats what its called.... its eitehr that or the path tool) |

I figure I'll say this before someone else does. Though it is true.. quote

Don't make a carbon copy of something, make your own interpretation of it. You learn nothing from making something exact.. |

What do you mean? When you're working from a photo, you're suppossed to make your pics look like the photo.

go to the thread "Does she looks like her?" and read some of the responses to see what I mean.
Not trying to sound like an ass at all [though I come across like that at times], but I figured someone would say that eventually. |

you know... I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer... but after half a year ago when I started my webpage and digital arts at the sametime I never watched tv for more than half and hour each day. Though you'll like to know.
