Kick ass! Nice folds in the shirt. Great contrast overall. I love that you've kept your light and dark values separate and readable. Very bold stuff.

hey that is pretty cool toast. my main issue would be the mouth area. If the guy was really getting into it, his cheeks would be out like bullfrogs. In your image though, I think there is almost a horizontal line that extends too far from the mouth and gives the cheeks a weird structure. Also below this area, but above the white shirt neck area, the side of his face looks funny. I think the area is just too dark as it gives a weird structure to the side of the lower portion of the face (almost like a double chin on the side of your face).

again I love the image and style, just a few niggling little things.

I play sax .. or at least I did, and your cheeks rarely go really far out, you're just not blowing that hard..the way he has it is about perfect. You get a different sound when you blow so hard your cheeks bulge out and for normal playing, it's not a good sound. When it's needed it's great though.

i agree with matt about the line upper the lips
it looks quite weird

Tweeder, really ? did you play on a band ?personnaly i don t play but i love the sound of the sax ; i m not much into jazz , i really prefer ska, the root sound i mean .

Btw , reference is one of the famous ska pionners : dennis campbell . you can find the photo there : http://www.skatalites.com

I agree too that "my" chicks should have been a little more hollow.

interesting. I had a look at the source photo and even in the photo I don't like the whole 'double chin' aspect on the side of the face. Even in the photo to, my eye, it is difficult to make out what is shadow, what is neck etc. Maybe this is were colour would really help out. I think the 'threshold' in the photo has been changed and has cause the problem in the first place.
