Hey guys
Just wanted to let you know, we've posted a whole bunch of digital art tutorials at 3dpalette http://www.3dpalette.org/features/armory/
Theres nothing really new, but it should function as a good resource for both newbies and pros alike. Just something that is very quick and easy to locate what you're looking for...at least thats what i'm hoping.
The tutorials are all image development tutorials, that is to say, the artist describes the process followed (and illustrates with in between shots) to make a particular image. Just to make clear, this is only one category, of the planned 12 or so that i want to cover.
I hope you find these useful. Additionally, i would REALLY appreciate some feedback on this. Nothing specific...just throw the gauntlet at me. A few points that i wouldn't mind feedback on:
1. Other tutorials...specifically for this section. If you know of any that would be a good fit, please, please let me know. Just tonight i realised i missed one by Frost that deserves to be in there.
2. Layout: Is this layout ok for this category? I'll likely have to make a different template for each category, but for now, is it fairly easy to browse through? I went through a few different layouts, but they all seemed to contain too much (eg. emails, homepages etc) or too little info. BTW...the thing about the text not lining up with the pictures....i know about it. Wasn't my fault...remind me to kick flashers ass.
I thought this was a good compromise. A nice large image so u could see what the tut was on, the title and author, and a brief description.
Please guys, i'd really like feedback on this, as I'm going to be making a big site on tutorials, and i need to know how u like this.
Cheers

immi- I think the layout is done very well. I was looking for Craigs image the other day on his re-work of Golongria's image. I think that was probably one of the best I've seen. I'm afraid I can't think of any tutorials for you to use. I have seen all of the ones you have there with the exception of maybe one or two.
I am interested to see where you will go with all of this. I wonder will you have other tutorials like texture making in Photoshop (with filters and the like) and 3D modeling? Or will you stick with straight digital painting stuff? Well, no matter I think it looks very nice now.
I do think you should get something in there from Fred. I'm sure he's got some really killer stuff.
Later, looks great

very nice. But how about haveing those tutorials locally on 3dpalette? I saw that some of the tutorials are their respective owner's sites and links get changed once in awhile due to pageupdates and so on...hmm..just thought it would be better to have them stored locally...:/

great, great, great
thats really helpful immi.
I think your decision to have a big picture as preview for the tutorials was quite right
and useful.

Thanks for the comments.
Sporq: yeah, i think we're in there somewhere.
Fianchetto: I'll definately be doing sections on textures. 3D stuff..? hmm...probbaly not right off the bat. Once TA gets going, I'll probably try get someone who's more into that to cover that section...which will basically be a whole other 20 categories right there as 3d is so large...esp on the net.
Boomstick: Yeah, I might try do that once TA is up, but there's a few issues to contend with over that.
Moonlord: cheers
BTW...JOACHIM...do you have that captain america tutorial stored anywhere?

Well, as usual, I can't get any of the 3d Pallete pages to open at all. My browser locks up completely.
Anyone have this problem, or better yet a solution? I am using IE 5.

Sorry to bring this back to the top. Just wanted to answer the questions. Kos...thanks for the tip.
Zombie: Man, it seems like a few people have the same problem. We honestly have no idea what causes it and we've spent a lot of time trying to find out. I don't know what to say. Perhaps try Netscape? heh. |

Hey all,
One evening I spent around 5 hours disecting the page trying to figure out what was causing the crashing.
I had a tester for me who was experiencing the crashes.
We had the ENTIRE page stripped down to absolutely nothing but one empty table and image links ripped...it still crashed...at that point I looked to the sky and said, "damn you No Heart ! daaaamn yoooou !!". |
