..yeah, what's with it?

see for yourself:

So the selection itself is creating multiple 'phantom' outlines of its own shape where there is *no* selection present. Zooming in/out may move the phantom lines around, but doesn't always get rid of them.

i'm thinking maybe it's my video card (NVidia RIVA TNT - 16MB?), or my ram (128MB) that's causing the problems, but other than that, i'm clueless. Has anyone out there ever had this problem or could think of why this is going on?

Tnx,

Hey, Nova!

I had the same problem too for a while. It was a while ago and I was glad to have it fixed, so I don't remember exactly what the fix was. I think it was indeed my video card (Nvidia) that was causing the problem. I think I downloaded the latest drivers or got a newer card (ack, money) to fix it. It was an annoying problem, I know.

Now I have a TNT2 Ultra with 256 megs of ram and no problems.

Good luck with your problem... hope you can fix it!

peace,
------------

The TNT is a good card, I was using one myself for almost a year (Now that my GeForce 2 GTS is hauling ass in this machine, I gave it to my Dad).
I can't see why the RAM would be the cause either.

Just minimize the window that your painting is in and restore it (not photoshop, just that window inside photoshop). That usually gets rid of them.

I had problems in PS also, but they were different. Whether i was drawing with a brush, random pixels would appear around the brush!! Very very unusable.. Anyway it came out to be the burned mobo that when i got a new one, it got fixed. (always make sure the back side of motherbard is isolated from anyy metal hehe)

Yah. I had that problem before. Tweak with the refresh rate.. that might help. also you may want to try minimizing the picture you work on....it should get rid of the ghost lines (if it happens)

i often have a bit of garbage show up on the screen when i'm working with a large image, so i guess it must be a ram problem for me. but, i found that clicking on the last entry in the 'history' list makes the picture refresh and all the garbage disappear. try that, maybe you've got the same problem as i do.

alo,

wow, i wasn't expecting so many replies!

g:tech: i'm going to see if i can get a new driver, that worked when my tablet died one time.

Ko: yep, i'm trying something new

Rob M: that works, restarting photoshop takes care of it for a while, too

[Shizo]: i looked at the motherboard 2 days ago, didn't look burned to me

EviL ToYLeT: my refresh rate is at a measly max of 60.. should i mebe make it lower?

hennifer: hmm, sounds like a tangible solution, thanks

Solitaire: 1. shmanks yesiree, some of the images in there are 3D, and i recently put up the head of a 3D character i'm working on at school in A:M.

2. thanks again.. they're my favorite part to do. it seems like when you make the eyes the character all of a sudden has more life to it.. it's cool good idea for a tutorial too, one of the big reasons i don't have any up is that i don't know what people want to see, that hasn't covered a lot before. hmm.. i'll get to work on it.

cool site and I enjoyed most of your work; keep up the good work.
Are you also in 3D? One of your heads looked like it, but I wasn't sure...

btw, your favourite discipline seems to be the eyes - your eyes are among the most impressive I 've ever seen - I am now entering your tutorial section hoping there's one on eyes

I have a scroller thing on the middle of my mouse and when I use it when I zoom up it creates a different problem... I have a Voodoo 3 and I don't think it's the video card that causes that... it's most likely the software (Photoshop) this goes away if I minimize then maximize again.

Well what I would suggest is to go to www.Madonion.com and go to the discussion boards and ask around for a site that has the latest detonator drivers for riva tnt video cards and then procedd to download and install those drivers once you get the info on that website. I hope this will help you out with your problem it seems like a video card problem to me. If it doesn't work post again and ill ask my friend who is more resourceful than I am in the technical field of computers.
