Flying tackle (no ref): clothing.
Edit: been meaning to change this to greyscale (the colours suck so bad).
Done.

Couldn't stand it anymore - some temp sails...
Edit: even a badly painted/matched background is better than untextured...

And the still evolving 'set' - yes I know endless sketchup is tedious and boring
(tell me about it, sigh)...
Edit: current 'mood music'...

Might seem odd posting all this GS stuff but am humming/hawing re
placement/story/etc. (and shifting the landscape) - the model is my thinking
process atm...
-----------------
A couple people have mentioned overpaints ('can't wait to see the
overpaint', kinda thing). After thinking about it a bit, I'm not going to
overpaint at all. The idea being, oil painting is what it is (can't be mistaken
for woodworking) and Blender is what it is (sophisticated effects). So the
medium here is GS + vectors. I'm not going to disguise it or make it
something it isn't...
I guess this idea started when a vector sequence (Nexus Inn - part one)
was mistaken for "cell-shaded" 3D. That was flattering at first (or
something), then a bit annoying. One professional artist (Mullins)
mentioned 3D overpaints are 'easy to spot'. Maybe so but I'd rather not
get caught in the middle (non-3D mistaken for 3D).
I think I mentioned somewhere (in Sijun) that if I use 3D for overpaint I'll
just say so. Seems pretty straightforward, right? LOL But I guess some
folks have been 'caught' trying to present overpainted 3D as freehand work
(not sure what happened to them but I wonder if that was the beginning of
"Sijun gestapo", lol). In any case, seems safer not to blur the line - though
there is one 3D 'overpaint' (at least one) that I forgot to mention, it's here
(second image):

O anticlimax.

Er, doubled the length of the island (elbow room; and I don't wanna talk about
it, lol); adding some colour (constant sand and stone driving me nuts); posable
background figure (for civilian clutter), all of it extruded hexagons...

bit of fun... blockiness of the chest makes me think of Morgenstern (Zelazny)...
again, hexagons only; second generation will look better (just my ignorance
showing)...

Whoa, crazy amount of work on display again, awesome update!
I love the sailboat and how the island is shaping up. You probably have a ton of backstories ready for the locations. |

Thanks samhell.
Re backstories, I've got lots, absolutely. What I had in mind for the island is
a bit too superficial (as mentioned in the Genesis thread) so am rewriting (yet
again). Complete overhaul of the island too.
The ship... still lots to learn about ships. Hehe. Bought a hobby kit of
the Santa Maria... been looking at galleys... would like to see a bunch of OSS
folks at the oars in a naval battle, heh heh - say, that could work [mental note]. |

Another go. Reference (forgot to mention).
Posable model = excellent crash course in anatomy...

First time doing three layers. Adds new, um, issues, lol.
Grass, first pass (roughly in place); gives a better sense of scale, tho I lost
perspective re size (10m squares; length = 1.5 km = eek).

Edit: image error: "Google 404 That's an error. The requested URL ... was
not found on this server. Thats all we know." Except I'm looking at two copies
of it (on the server) - hmmmm. Will wait for the server to sort itself?
Been engrossed in the 'sketchup challenge' (pushing it to do what it's not
designed to do). Hellish, lol, but possible.
Tried extruding two intersecting hexagons. That worked for the body (will
show later). Minimum needed for the head seems to be about 18 sides.
Some interesting accidental shapes (alien creatures, even ships) have
appeared along the way (not shown here)...
Edit two: direct hit rather than 'part of an album' seems to work (shout if
u can't see it). NB have had some issues since updating browser, glitch
might be at my end.

Still very wip...
Good test run for the larger model, which is 10 times bigger (eek). Doing
something like this (it's approaching 3km, overall), u really get a sense of how
*huge* a planet is...

Third generation.
GS is very resistant - interesting challenge tho not sure how far I'll go with it.
Shadows are completely flat so: overlay.

Still going wherever it takes me (nice change)...
Discoveries in Sketchup keep circling toward Blender: explode curves and
manually adjust vertexes (to get a smooth surface) - easier in Blender...
Far from story concerns atm but that's okay with me.
