Spooge: hot damn. A few waves of the wand and you've turned what was a really good image into something almost magical. Very nice.

Danny, that's great - the added noise/grain and the slightly off kilter colors/values give it a kind of dream like quality which I dig. The sloping, sharp horizon line is the only thing that I don't like (but only mildly so).
I wouldn't add anything in the field, personally.
Spooge's lighting scheme on the figure is very nice, defines the forms really well, but still looks just a bit artificial to me. Would there really be that much bounce light off of a field of corn or grass?

Hey Francis,
thanks for your comments. It's great to hear that it appears to you as having a dream like quality. Which is partially intentional. I am changing the horizon for certain as that seems to be the main thing bugging people.
As for Spooge's bounce light. There probably wouldn't be so much of it. However I think when something can look that good, natural rules should be allowed to be 'ignored'.

Yeah, well.. what can I say apart from sorry?
Question to self; why the F do you always draw objects that are so impossible to draw the other side of? Sheesh. Just cubes and rightangles next time, damnit.

Suma: I could help but laugh when I saw that one.
Dan: You don't need anything beyond the wheat field-it's symbolic by itself without interupptions. I think you should consider doing a different figure, this time not copying a photo(I don't say it's immoral or whatever, but just to help you improve you should paint on your sometimes). I also think it would be more effective if the girl had a thin blowing nightgown thing on, veiling thinly her figure, etc. It would go better with the mood of the image than open bikini underwear.

Sumaleth - I literally laughed out loud when I was scrolling down really fast and came screeching to a halt on your image. That was great.
Oblagon - yours was pretty good, too, hehe.

Danny nice .....
Spooge: Awsome work with the values. I noticed that the atmospher( fogging over the distance ) was not pulled in enough for mountains...but your work with the lighting just as impressive I am sure danny took something from your pic.
SUM: your pic is impressive because it melds with danny's so well..I mean it doesnt look like it wasn't there the whole time. Good work |

Oblagon and Transcendent, those are pretty sad mutilations. I posted this picture for people to see and acquire some opinions, not to serve as a playground for age old childish jokes. Please refrain from this next time..

it's not my fault that the picture provokes jokes. BTW to me it looks like last three (3) are jokes. I actually laughed at all four. I think you stumbled on something special here. You should follow this trail.

In the childish joke category (since I can't really add anything after all that's been said and done)
Obviously this person is staggering half dressed through a spikey wheat field because she's delerious from malnutrition. I mean, look at her!
I recommend that she be brought in immediately, put under a mild sedative and on a glucose drip. If all goes well she'll be back on solids in about 3 weeks |

I hope you didn't take my joke too seriously.
This is sijun - one out of two posts have a slapped on undressed woman with a large chest, and one of ten replies have at least one occurrence of strong language. To be perfectly honest, I think that's sadder. (take a look at the "mutilation" and notice the correlation)
By the way, I did make a (very casual) attempt at making the picture look better. Apologies if you didn't find mine funny.
Good day to you too. |

nice picture danny I forgot to reply to this one before. I think, as you probably know already, that spooge has some very good points and that helped your picture a lot. I guess one difference I noticed the most with the changes he did, is that it gave your picture a more complete overall impression, as it seems more like elements putten together on yours. Another thing I think is important, which spooge did but not mentioned, is that he removed details where they aren't needed, like on her clothing, etc, which makes it more confortable for the eye....which is maybe one of your bad habits that you overwork things to be as detailed as possible.
I hope you see some valuable points in what I said, pic is really nice, just a few things that I personally felt like pointing out.
Agree that people should respect a picture and not start playing jokes on it, unless it's being encouraged by the artist. But in all respect, don't you think sumas robot kind of invited people to do so ?

Danny: Don't let this discourage you from your painting or from posting here, I'm sure no disrespect was meant by it. Stuff like this is bound to happen, sadly.
Keep up the great work Dan, and please keep posting.
Cheers,
Frost. |

sadly, post like yours are bound to happen. If you keep at it someone will throw you a bone.
WHAT is the big deal here ? Treat the paint overs as a form of critique.
HOw about formulating your request in less pretentious way, Danny.

I think danny is right, it's a bit silly and
lame to f*ck up a serious picture by adding
elements that break with the orginal idea of
the creator. Atleast ASK for permission to
add some elements and make the new outcome
usefull instead of a cheap joke. Respect the
orginal credits, and realize that not every
artist likes to see his orginal work changed
by other people!
Suma's variation was funny, and he used his
talent.. the other 2 variations were crap
and overkill, cuz sumaleth already made the
'joke'.
About the 'photo reference' and copy/threnody
mix up.. those are worlds apart. Your art
won't be less artistic or less good if you
use a certain form of reference. Orginality
is based on lot's of SUBJECTIVE factors, and
those factors are based upon taste, not the
quality of technique, colors etc. used!
You can copy/use styles, ideas, images etc.
without ripping people off, there's no holy
rule of art ethics that describes what's
good or bad.
I simply think that Oblagon takes digital art
less serious than Danny does.. and ignorance
is not a good advisor in these issues!
Hiphop lingo -> Peace out!

nice pic Danny !
i like the pic in general, but if i have to crit something, it goes to the girl, IMO she dont fit in there, maybe a coat or something would fit on her 'open' backside
f*ck i cant type, im off !
nice pic again, too bad about the silly jokes, but that is art and thats not

Assa;
I'm sure anyone who has been part of this forum for any length of time will know that playing around with other peoples posts is a *major* part of what the forum is about, so it shouldn't be said to be wrong or bad in any way.
Unfortunately there's currently no system in place for people who would prefer their work to not be joked around with. I'm sure Oblagon and Transcendent had best intensions when they posted their images, but there was no way for them to know that Danny wasn't keen to see his image joked around with.
Oblagon is right in his use of the word clique - a big part of the humor behind the image I posted was that I know Danny, and knew (hoped) he'd get a kick out of me playing with his image. Thats a different sort of humor than the other posts, but of course it's completely lost on everyone else.
Summary?
Unless Dhabih adds something into a persons information (in that little box to the left of a post), I think people will need to be quite explicit in stating that they don't want people playing around with their post.
That playing around is a big part of what makes these forums fun, so it shouldn't be globally discouraged.
--
If anyone wants to take this point any further, or the question of using photoreference, then I think it would be worth putting it in Discussion and posting a pointer here.

personaly i dont think its right for us to judge some one and how they used there referance. so what if he didnt change the pose or clothes. ALL artist use some kinda of referance. either in photo or life.
ive also seen a bunch of danny's other paintings. for those that havnt look here www.xs4all.nl/~dang/
anyways, just thought id say that |

Ok well I wasn't going to say anything but these double standards get on my tits.
That is NOT using a pic for reference, the girl is exactly the same. Same clothes,
same hair, same lighting, same pose, same everything. No imagination put into it
at all, so that is just a plain COPY. How come so many other ppl have been crucified
for doing this same thing? and then others get praise because of who they are?
If you want to copy pics then thats cool with me (not my thing but I can still
appreciate it to an extent) but I think you should of said so in the first place.
This suggests to me that the background could most likely be a copy aswell...
or maybe its all just a bunch of cut and pasted photos that have been painted and
glossed over? If you tried to get away with the first part, maybe you are trying to
get away with the lot? it just goes deeper and deeper.
Anyway, I think the fact that you were caught out doing this and still got away with it
because noone wants to say anything against you because of who you are, is the fact that
some people do not like that and are not respecting your picture.
I'm not trying to start anything, this is just my honest opinion. |
