I took a quick digital pic and used that as a photo reference. I think this is my best drawing I've ever done, the most detailed anyway. I'm still not very good with using shading as color, so most of the picture is white, but I think it works.
PLEASE give me pointers and advice and criticisms (I know I screwed up the eyes)

Does anybody have any tutorials or webpages I can read about techniques for better pencil shading? Mine has always looked flat, I look at all these pictues here and they're so much better than what I can do and I want to learn.

i think the nose is a little wide in the bride, and a little off kilter at the bottom. This isnt a problem if you're like me and recently broke your nose :-) You also have some weird extra lines in the chin. |

Think of it this way, you are not drawing lines. You are drawing different shapes using different values In other words, try to end up with a picture where there are no lines. Where you have lines now, you should have different surfaces with different values meeting. What you draw as lines are just the contrast between darker and lighter values.
