I've been an art student since I was 16, I wanted to read Nature Science or whatever it's called, but my Arts teacher forced me to read art...I suppose she did the right thing, I have no need to be ashamed of my work...
This is my latest piece:
It's my first experience with a Wacom tablet, and I suppose I'll stick to it since it made things pretty easy...
Don't raise me to the skies or something, there are lots of people who are better than I, I just want to know what I could have done even better.
If you feel like it you can see my earlier work on www.sweedberg.com , but that page hasn't been updaten since May... |

Hi, sweedberg! This is nice, this is absolutely nice one. Hmm.. only thing I really hate is that staple-pendant thing... *grin* The skulls are great! Did you use any references? It looks so detailed that I suppose so. Keep up the good stuff!

Awesome pic, but try not to get a big head over your skills... even though you're really good. |

OK guys, now you've been nice and so, but as I said, and Tinusch apparently agrees with; thats not needed. I want some criticism, hopefully constructive criticism, cuz' I wanna develop! I want to get better!
Btw, YourMum, I worked from these sketches, which I scanned, and the skullball didn't come from any other source than my memories of how a skull should look like (but I've drawn quite a few).
For the face I had a good friend (named Zophie) as model...but it doesn't look like her at all...
The quick sketch helped me with getting the angles and stuff right though...I've had a problem with that...

Very nice. The head is well shaded for black and white, and I eally like the angles the skulls are placed at.
My only suggestion is that the face doesn't seem to integrate with the skulls - I'd either make the face color, or the skulls black and white. Maybe something connecting them too.
I'd suggest black and white - this would make an awesome tatoo.
Great work, the site's good too.

I would agree with plant 42, the composition on this looks way off in my eyes. The skulls and the girl looks good on their own perhaps, but not together as they are now, like different stiles to them. I dont have any specific suggestion as what to change, except perhaps shade the both parts in more similar tones and integrate them in some way.

hi I like the way you put the skulls together
reminds me a bit of Eschers work although
you didn't work that much with perspective in this pic
I agree with the other comments about the composition
I think it would look better
if the face was much more in the background
....hmmm maybe if the skulls would cast some shadows on her ?
just an idea
oh and welcome to the board

Now I added some color to the lady, just to see how it would look like...I think it works...
What do you think about the change?? |

Either her nose or her eyes are off center. Look at the distance between the eyes and the nose. Notice how HER right eye is further away? The lips hint that they are not parallel with the rest of her features. Also, the composition suffers from the skull ball not actually being a ball. It is an odd shape and when you try to place something with in that shape you have to offset it from the center. Which makes it a little unappealing to me.

Quick comment;
I think the mouth looks like it's too far below her nose. And maybe the nose is minorly large.
Otherwise looks very nice.

Hey this looks nice sweedberg. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is the expresion. she's sort of dark and gothic but with a supprised look. It just doesn't fit. The eyebrows might look better if they wern't raised IMHO. The eyes are a little two dimensional as well, try and show the eyelids etc.

I'd resize the face, but since it's in many layers it was too much work right now...but in the jpg it would be easy I realize now...
And with the Ibrowse lowered she just looked angry, at least when I tried to move them...maybe you would succeed...just give me your email and I'll send you the .psd.
I'd want her to look cruel, not angry...
It is not the right time of the day for me to work on a pic now, it's 4.14 here in sweden, and I'm slightly drunk... I'll get back to you!!

I hacked at it a bit.
pulled mouth up, made space between eyes smaller, and lowered eyebrows.
I generaly messed around with little bits here and there. I can send you a PSD with the whole image overlayed with your original so you can switch between them if you want.
Not saying this is the right way to do a face, and the way you had the mouth low created an interesting look. I thought the hair was a bit plastic as well. maybe if you but a lot of hairspray it would go like that the join of the hair and scalp was also a bit sharp. I wasn't sure about the hairline you had either.
I've sort of standardised your face, it's not as original and unique as it was before. I'm not sure how many of what I would have classed as "mistakes" were intentional. I just couldn't seem to stop at the eyebrows...*sorry*..
hope this explains what I was talking about. |

Better in color -
One thing you might want to try, is to enlarge the face by about 250-300%, so that the skulls cover up a bit of the face.
From there maybe you can airbrush a bit to merge the two together.
I'll post a pic if I've lost you.
