looks nice Isric...Hehe, you want us all to give you a hand on this one ? Well, would be fun to see how different people on the forum would have done some overpainting to give different ideas, but I don't think I will do anything to help if spooge pops up with one
I will try for the fun of it though

Hi!
I really like your piece. It reminded me a lot of the kind of things we see on telivision every day and turn our heads from. It is very sad. So I went ahead and had the gall to go and paint over your pic. (I hope I don't offend you). I don't think I really added anything to it. Just fer kicks I gess.

the painting looks great, but something is wrong.. The lady holding hte kid looks so futuristic, but the kid is so plainly dressed, it takes away from the whole feel of the peice imo.. but cool idea and painting though.. |

Hey, Isric
I liked your concept alot I did a version.. I changed it a bit from your original. I don't know why??? What I was thinking about was a kind of Neverending Story parallel. Cause I wanted to justify why the kid is dressed so differently then the woman. I kind of liked the idea, stranger in a strange land, etc.. Hopefully it's ok with you that I did this, if it isn't, just give me a yell and I will definitely take it down.
here goes:
what do you think???

NICE!!! Huri-cane, i love that dark look, very medival.
But yes, I choze normal clothes on purpose, and I think General Confusions handles that well.
Thank you both.
I would still love to see some other ideas on this though...man these are great! |

Very nice. It really reminds me of Flexible-Elf's style.
Also, The background is a lot nicer. However, I think that their is still something missing from your piece. Perhaps it is that, by presenting this women with her child you make us very curious as to what has happned. Now if this is stand alone then you might consider having her walking away from a burning speeder or something. Or, Well...I don't know. But you get what I mean. Give us more story! It's a beautiful piece, keep it up.

Ok. I guess here's my shot at it. I took some liberties, but tried to stay true to the original. I went a bit different with the coloring. You be the judge...
As usual any comments/critiques welcome.

Liquid!: That one looks pretty cool. I like the red lighting and the background. Nice touches. Its weird how all of your pieces have a very distinct "liquid" style. |

.......wow.
Liquid, I can now die happy. This is so intense and dramatic!! I can't stop shaking!
Okay, calm..calm... This is very well done, and I absolutely love the changes you made. It looks as though what she's doing is more important now. The darkness creates a mystery and imperitivness that just wasn't there before. bravo
now if you'll excuse me, I have to change pants.

As posted before I'm having some calibration problems. Here's a smaller and lighter version. I think smaller has a tendency to look a bit better because everything tightens up a bit...
CHAPEL: Well, I'm not sure if I can shake the 'liquid' style... however, I don't think that the work I'm doing here is really that similar to the work in the comics. Then again that's just me, maybe I'm too close to it. However, the majority of stuff I'm doing here now, is done in a sort of 'gouache' style because I'm trying to get a better handle on that technique.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm always worried that people will pigeonhole us, thinking that we're capable of just one thing, whereas I would like to think that our strengths are that we're quite flexible.
Just me.

We lost about 40% of rendering on issue 1 of SoulSaga. That is no exageration. So to compensate for this incessant problem you tend to overcompensate in terms of contrast in your work...
Anyways, hope to show more range in the future, since I would hate to be that predictable... Thanks for all the comments.

Isric: I love that new, warmer palette. It diversifies the female figure from the rest of the painting, which seems (and gives the feel) very ancient in technology. Then there's the woman who's cool palette blends well. Overall, great piece...much better than your earlier versions.
Liquid, Hurri, and GC, great job, although I get more of a "royal" feeling out of Isric's palette

Liquid!: I'm not saying all of your stuff looks like comic stuff. I'm just saying I can tell you did the pic. I think it actually has to do with your color selection. The colors you choose are either dark or vivid. I guess it is hard for me to explain, but maybe I can give a suggestion. Next time you pick up some comics see if you can get an issue of the "Inhumans" mini-series. I think Chris Pachello is the artist (not the Jae Lee series). Check out the style of colors the colorist uses in there. Sorta the opposite of what you do now. |

Chris Bachalo is the penciler on SteamPunks.
Carlos Pacheco is the penciler on Fantastic Four.
And I think Inhumans is penciled by Jose LaDronn, with color guides by him.[which by the way I think is a great looking book]
While I think you're right, I don't think its exclusive. I'd consider the 'More Angels' piece fairly drab.

Chris (Liquid!), I think your work is very noticable, although not just for your comic coloring, etc...Your traditional painting style (it seems) as well as most of your other work includes one or two extremely intense light sources with very strong, vivid highlights in certain places. This is similar to the dodge/burn cuts in your comic pieces, and gives almost the same effect. By no means is this a bad thing, however...your distinctive style has set the mood for a great deal of some of the best pieces/comics ever ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

Liquid,
I know this was Isric's topic, but I do have to agree with Chapel. Your art is very easily recognizable as yours. The brights are *very* bright and the darks are *very* dark with little to no transition between them. Soul Saga and EVE are also very dark with bright hightlights. I think that's not a bad thing though. Love your work!

urhm...actually I did a quick brush-over of your image as well. I just forgot to post it, or the truth, I did such a lousy job on it that I didn't bother to post. But, what the heck, we can't always have our good days, right ?
sorry about this one...

JOACHIM- That's a cool piece! Nice work on the the background... Its weird, we very much went for the same thing in terms of the general idea. We both have them lit by 'candles'/'fire', but with different effects. I think I went a bit too colorful... for some reason I was thinking this was a 'different' world...
Where's Micke's?
