Another quick painting. This one was done in Photoshop 6.0, to give it a shot at digital painting. It's a little slower, I think and if it wasn't for the tip to quickselecting brushsizes (don't remember right now who found out) I'm sure I would have stayed with ver. 5.5. It's worse at doing 100% opacity lines when you do quick painting stabs but the pressurehandling of the stylus is vastly improved...
Anyone want to join in on views on ver. 6.0???

tip to quick selecting brushes in pSHop 6? the you mean the "[" and "]" hotkeys? or is there something else. there are some cool features like being able to group layers (sort of like in flash) . i like that ability, but it isnt worth it enoug for me to switch. it just f*ed me all up when i wanted to switch between size and opacity and what not in the brush options pallete. allthough i do keep those palletes up opn the top of my screen, i dont like to have to access them through a pull down menu. that is a hugfe hassle and makes me have to do more work instead od pointing and tapping......
and it took me a bit to get used to the new hotkeys....consolidating the pencil and brush with b and shift+b (or is it just b again?) whatever. and putting the paint bucket tool with the gradient tool (g). that one sort of makes sense, but almost every draw program on the planet uses k for the bucket..... my suggestion is that they make the hotkeys infinitely programable, with a few presets to choose from. like in maya! i can assign the keys and combination os keys to just about anything in the app....that is sheer luxury. ok. enough talkin about pShop. gots to go use it for a while....
have fun.
(oh yeah, and the goat man is scarey. Baaaaaaaaa....... fun stuff. i like how you set it up like a normal painting on paper too. i work the same way. warm neutral toned bg, then paint. fun stuff)

toast! - thanks. Those symbols means nothing at all. This was a speedy painting, but if I were to do a cover or such I would have done a bit of reseach on keltic symoblism to get some more meaning into the tatoo.
tanis - yeah...
garauda_x - the shortcut for quickselecting brushes is shift-rightmousebutton (on pc) and it does work quite well. see this post here which were it was posted first.
yes, the painting is done exactly as I would in traditional media. ie. sketch-> transparent layer of burnt sienna -> underpaint ->final paint layer.
lukias - thanks. Brom is a huge inspiration for me...

Hi BooM
Another great piece...
I especially like what you did with the horns.
You seem to be in a very productive mood lately!
(Lucky B*****D )
I'll try to mail you my latest painting during the weekend. I'd like to know what you think, before I finish it. Your advice is always very much appreciated!
There's just a few bad areas I'd like to rework, before your Allseeing Eye passes judgement on it!

nice one boomer !
infact, so far I've only experienced the good sides of phshop 6.0. But, I guess I will go crazy from the slowdowns as soon as I will do some printing sized pictures

Ko- thanks. In fact the horns are what I dislike the most in the pic... hmmm... different taste??
Sure, send you pic and I'll do my best... I'm not sure about the Allseeing part though
Joachim - thanks again. Actually I haven't tried painting in highres yet. I'm afraid PS6 will be pretty slow when the file hits the 150 meg mark...:/
Zach - yeah, I guess so. It wasn't intentional though...

Boomstick,
I remember reading on this board a couple of monthes ago that you could turn off the thumbnail updating in the Layers Window in PS5. The person who posted this said it returns Photoshop 5 to the normal hard drive activity you had with 4. But of course, you're working with the new version...
anyway... here's the post by Loki

I'm still using 4, I wouldn't really know :P

I like those tattoos. He may look calm but I wouldn't wanna mess with him (well, besides the fact he's also half man/goat).

sergenth - thanks a bunch. I'm not really sure it helped speed up things, but I think so.
Also I installed the newest wacom drivers (4.52) and my problem with the brush going to 100% opacity nowandthen has dissapered. Now there's no turning back to previous versions...I'm happy
superbug - thanks... Wouldn't know about the taste though...heh!
sedone - thanks dude... Yeah! right now he's calm...calm before the storm!
