I was sitting having lunch with a friend, and having one of our many stream of concience conversations, I believe it began with programing (he's a programmer) and delved into the nature of art, design, and creation as a whole. now my definition of art, is something which holds value in itself as a creation and not in something other than itself.
But when my friend asked me what motivates me to draw, I was at a complete loss for Ideas, I have been experiencing a lull as of recently where I have had a creative "drought" and the only reason I could come up with was that I had images in my head, which I had to express and record somehow, which led me to believe that what I do is not truly art, but creation nontheless.
ANYWAYS
the query goes: What is the reason behind your will to draw/model/sculpt do your thang. |

to get good enough to maby one day when I leave school go professional.
+Its cool just to create what others have never seen before...
And it just feels good...
anyone read drawing on the right side of the brain? INteresting, helpful book. It also talks about the pleasure artists gain when they use the right side of their brain, its like a subcontious feeling.....

I have very abstract and a (sometimes annoying)internal tangent thought proccess.
pretty much even me just typing these words pop up things that also have that word in it, that pops up recreations of those visuals and on and on and on untill a new word comes to mind.
I do music and writing aswell, so my music fuels my drawing and my drawings fuel my writing and my writing fuels my music.
i also get motivation from my friends who are also artist or musicians. a few of them also have this strange type of thinking and we bounce stupid ideas off eachother untill something smart arises! hehe

I draw because the voices tell me to. Oh god, when will they let me stop?!?! And why do they have such a fascination with Ronald Reagan charicatures? |

there is a world
world that only i can see
in that world there are more dimensions than here... there you can see, smell, touch, hear as here but besides that you can do thing there are no words given to them.
i can see that world and i can somehow reproduct pictures from there... i got the talent to give the feeling without adding new senses to viewers.
if anyone got what I mean :P |

This is a hard question. I've always done art to get attention from others I guess. Whether it was my father who I tried to be or just a classmate. Also, I use to be my dad's errand boy at his art shows. I knew all the artist and they all told me one day I'll be a famous painter. Can't let them down now. Maybe that is the wrong reason, but I enjoy making something and having someone say "that looks cool.. you're talented". None of that "I want to take viewers to another realm of my imagination" mumbo jumbo, cause I have a limited one. ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

My primary motivations are music and reading. A lot of the electronic music I listen to inspires me to create something depending on the mood of the song. When reading, I usually end up maybe drawing a character from a novel that I think they would look like. Secondary motivations come from looking at other people's work, wanting to understand and learn there style. I think in this forum most of us get plenty of that

That's simple! I've asked myself that question millions of time and the answer is quite simple. When you create something and whitness yourself fine tuning the little nuances of the design, you get this sort of gratifcation from seeing what you've done, almost like looking into a mirror of your mind and what it is capable of, and if you enjoy what you see, it creates this immese feeling of accomplishment that is MY motivation to draw and create things...not to get all Zenish or anything... ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/wink.gif) |

For two reasons, if I had to narrow them down.
I've always wanted to entertain as many people as possible. Through art and the internet I am achieving my goals pretty much. After some good feedback from viewers I am so pumped to do another show of the characters I can hardly stand not having it done! WEE!
The other reason being I believe God created man. And being in the image of God, man has the will to create naturally. The ones with artistic skills have a hunger to create art, musicians with music, and so forth.

hm...I generally agree with ime. What fuels me to keep doing art and never be content with my current skill is based on a comment a friend once made about a Robert Smith sketch I made. I asked him to critique it and the only thing he said was "it's good, but I've seen better." There's always better..why not strive to be it? |

Ideally, my answer is that I'm fulfilling my childhood dreams and beyond. This is the case most of the time. I love being in entertainment and having an audience and telling stories. Each project is a blessing.
About 30% of the time, my main motivator is the impending doom if I do not finish in time. Hehe. I guess that's part of life. |

During that one moment when you see for the first time...the tank in Indiana Jones falls off the cliff - mario come to life in 3d on the 64 - the graffity on the berlin wall - the Coke polar bears - those broadband AT&T comercials - the new synj feature - the first flash page - watching toy story - calvin and hobbes - peanuts - star wars....
you always get a feeling...brightening your day...making you think about stuff...inpiring you...frustrating you with illusions beyond comprehension... It's the story of entertainment. To be able to be a part of that - to some day make someone feel laughter or awe at something I have created to share......that's what drives me. The comments, the smiles, even the hard critiques get you going only to produce a clearer and clear image of what your imagination can come up with.
so my goal is to get to where I can have whatever I can imagine flow freely into an image. I think that is the greatest success.

Most of the time, I don't feel like drawing. I hate getting started, knowing that it's going to be about 8 hours or so before I have a new pic. But I usually force myself to do it because there's nothing like the feeling you get when you're looking at a completed pic that you're proud of. |
