Well...I use TreePRO 4.0...I ques it's the best tree modeling programm there is...With those MEGA detail features it's easy to reach the size of 2Gb...=)...I can post some pics if you want...they are sweet.

I was wondering if any one here knew how to CG a tree to make it look real, i got this idea for a pic and it involes a forest but i have no clue on how to CG the trunk. please help

Well..I have modeled a few trees. I dont know your polygon limit (assuming you are using that as opposed to Nurbs), but I would create a tree fairly low-res and put a really nice texture map on it. Theres tons of great wood and bark textures widely available on the net. I would start with a cylinder, scale it, and make several plane cuts across it and then just tweak the points like crazy to give it some randomness and a bump feel. Of course, it depends a lot on the type of tree and so forth..but thats a VERY loose way of describing the process I have used for nice results. What program are you using?

Ok...here are those trees I wrote about...these are just goraud shaded versions and still very low detail ones(!). This is how I do my trees...well...not always.
