The coloring isn't too bad. Marvel ticks me off though for posting these low quality pics on there site. All the linework they posted is too compressed and grainy. I suggest you look for some higher quality stuff to color. What you have done looks ok, but coloring (just like inking) is only as good as the drawing underneath.

well, i like it. I think you did a good job.
Some things to think about tho...
you have all this black so your contrast is automaticly very high, so be carefull with using darker colors.

Ironman looks a little funny with all those dark reds and blacks towards his crotch area. They gray background is good for getting an over all even color scheme, but with so many colors and diffrent materials, the gray is killing your bright colors.
If you really want to learn something, take this same image and ink it with a different light direction.
have fun

Definately a good job. You have some good detail with the clothes. And good lighting across the charaters. Creating continuety(sp?) with a large number of characters is tough. Try using a universal color across the image in various areas to pull it together.

Add depth by making the lower characters a shade darker than the ones on top. It will create a uniform movement as opposed to the chaotic one now.

The others have already touched on the some issues.

The grey background is a killer.

Your work looks very airbrushed too. Thats something avoided in comic coloring. Try blending your airbrushing out, so its not so odvious. And try using the lasso tool, to create hard lighting. Use it to "cut" the brush.

You've a lot of glares, there too. They are kindof distracting. And when you do use them, they should have a faint touch of the color they are glaring off of.

Some more inks can be found at. http://www.geocities.com/shadowninja_x/
and http://www.comiccolors.com

Keep it up!

cool Seraphire....

just one question, whats the story with that colorist website monochrome? is that ran by you?

i really want to get into this area of comics. i feel that i am pretty good, i can always use improvemnet, and would like a really good place to go to get some of my work out there. i would also like to learn from others too! this place is pretty good, but it is kinda general to "computer graphics" and not specificly to coloring comics.

thanks for all the links, and if you find anything else please send me an email....

The grey background kills the overall image is what he is saying. I still think this a bad piece to color. The composition in my opinion is pretty bad. The penciler should have used a more dynamic angle or drawn them in a different formation. What Seraphire means by "using a universal color across the image" is a light source to help add dimension to the characters and show where they are in relation to each other and the lightsource. Something else you want to keep in mind when coloring established character is to have a color guide. You got most of them right except for Colossus. (Everyone should know he is my fav) His outfit should be red for the chest and bottom with a white stripe down one side of the chest and white stripes around the arm holes. Same with the gloves and boots the stripes should be white. Wolverine by the way is wearing the brown and tan outfit not the yellow and blue. Giant man is wrong also, but I forgot his scheme.

Also, a forum more tuned in to comic coloring is the one at http://www.topcow.com "Creator's Corner"

Chapel summed it up my analyse good.

Yea, I run the monochrome. I started it last month. But since I only got one entry, I'm doubting that I will continue it. It's not like I need the motivation to color. I thought it would be cool to see a bunch of colorists tackling the same image and see how the do it differantly.
This months art is the cover to Battlechasers #7.

Topcow is good. Alot of talented people there. Blond, TTC, Gigabyte, Seifer, etc...
Also go to http://www.ozcomics.com/ And visit the forums there. There is a coloring specific forum. Moore visits here more.

Nice job! But boy, did you pick a hard image to do... JJ Kirby is a good friend of mine, but this piece is really hard to color.
