try "how to draw the marvel way"

no, really....that book is fun and runs you through all sorts of excercises on how to lay down a stick man , or block man or whatever....to get your proportions right. it also covers perspective and some other fun poses. its the book i used when i was a kid, and i still pull it out and refer to it. there are tons of realatively good books about human anatomy out there....i cant remember the names of them right now, but they are great. i think somebody posted some pics from them not too long ago.....

Life drawing. Is there anywhere near you that offers a class in it? If not, get the anatomy books, any info you can find on figure drawing, remember bookstores? Not everything is on line. Gotta get it in hard copy. Plus, you have to take figure drawing to understand form , and figures in 3 D space. There is no other way around it. Copying photos is not going to cut it. YOu do not want to be stuck in a photo rut like Pierre has been if you only copy from them. You will have a very difficult time accepting what reality has to offer if all you ever look at are photos. They are a great place to help enhance the things you are learning in life drawing, but they are no substitute for it...that is my two cents...go to my web page if your motem will allow you to open it, and pull from it the figure drawing pages I have up. THey are only a start, but you can see what you are not going to get from studying photos if that is all you end up studying.

I don't want to sound negative here, please don't get me wrong. BUt I can't stress enough to you how important that life drawing is...

With all do respect fred flick stone,

I noticed that you mentioned my name.

you don't know what kind of experience I have from drawing and observation from real life. I have probably done more life drawing than most guys on this forum, and figure studies.

Pierre-I don't doubt that, but I am using your name in immediacy to the evil thread that spawned with your images.

As I mentioned in your Tutorial thread, I know that you can draw and paint, but I do not see a great amount of skill when a photo is copied. This is the drawback to copying them too much.

I think if you went back and pulled the information and knowledge that you learned from figure drawing, and drawing from life in general, that you would find a greater sense of life and dimensionality that just copying photos cannot give.

I am not smearing your name at all, I am merely using it in reference. I could easily go another route with this and say that you could get in a rut much like Boris Vallejo does, but he pulls more info from his life drawing experiences into his paintings than you have as of yet.

I garuntee that if you sat down and really re-evaluated the things you are currently doing, the things you have done, and where you want to go next with it all, that you will start blending all your experience together and come up with something fresh and original. Honestly, you can do this, if you have the skills to do what you are doing now, why not go that extra length and really make an impact.

Spooge would not be the same Spooge if all he did were copy photos to the "T". He embellishes, and then embellishes some more. Oh, and all he does anymore is invent.
Reference may be used to get an idea started, but that is all.

Pierre, I believe you can do this, I really do, you need to put things in check first and really assess where you are with all this. Art is in your blood, I can feel it, some of your images show this. But the idea of doing the photo copy thing is really holding you back from your ultimate potential. If you want to discuss this stuff more, feel free to email me so there are no "making examples of..." going on within the forum. If you don't mind, then post up more help me's, and I will gladly give my 2 cents. What I don't want here is to slam baster anyone and put them in the proverbial doghouse. If you have any questions at all, please email me. I would be more than happy to assist any way I can, honest...

I gotta agree with FFS, life drawing is essential. I'm currently taking a class and have taken a few in the past. It really makes a difference in whatever I draw not just the figure. THere's a good book called constructive anatomy that's helped me a lot. Check around and see what works for you.
