Tetsuuooooooo!
Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, it looks like you've got a pretty good start. You're technique seems fine for laying down the base colours and shapes you want to start with. I'd like to see it when's it's finished.
Are you using a screen shot from the actual movie?

i might move the big centered building over a bit.... as a rule i try not to place objects dead in the center unluss you want to direct the viewer there for some reason. the whole two thirds/golden mean thing, eh? it might addd some funk...you can play with it on another layer if you like. just throwing my two cents out there. composition is fun. |

Looks like you have a great start going! I'd love to see you keep working out the values and colors some more. Its tough to give you useful feedback at this stage. At least for me.
The thing about painting in blocks of colors is that it requires a 'keener' understanding of color, value, and the underlying shapes and masses, than being able to fudge things with an airbrush. It requires you to make stronger 'commitments' to what you put down on paper. At least if you're doing it very well. I think that's why Spooge (Joachim's awesome 3/4 head shot comes to mind as well), refers to gouache painting as extrememly useful teaching technique, since the inherent limitations of the medium require you to think about the world in terms of planes and shapes, rather than smooth transitions. Thus, ultimately making you think more about the masses of the forms you are painting.
Hmmm... hope that makes sense and doesn't sound to artsy-fartsy.
