I can't have removable hard drives or else I would go that route. I mean I have 20 GB already, and have used 10 so far.
I guess my problem is opening and closing the file. Takes about 2 minutes to open and save because I have just a standard connection with my hard drives.
Also, I need something for backup reasons....might do animation and so forth. |

I'd just get a cd burner...
The Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A CD-RW is
supposed to be really good and fast, plus it
has flash rom and will burn 80 minute CDs
although the 80 min CDs aren't universally
compatible...
Here's a link to prices and information $247.50 is the cheapest
CNET Reviews
You can get CDs for like 50 cents a piece and
they hold 650MB....anyways I am rambling.
Thas my advice...

Oh yeah, I think a 10,000 RPM SCSI Harddrive
would prolly help too...how much RAM do you
have?

Since I'm just getting into doing huge digital paintins, rather than small drawings and comics, I'm in need of a hard core storage device.
The painting I'm doing based on those sketches of the jungle trees is producing one huge 160 MB file and will probably increase a bit as I go. So, I'm definately going to need SCSI...tape drive...jazz...______?
And if you know of one that's good for its money, whatever the cost, please tell me so I can research them.
Thanks a heep! ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/biggrin.gif) |

I recommend an Ultra ATA 66, 7200 RPM drive. They are significantly faster than the standard 5400 RPM drives and MUCH cheaper than SCSI. For the price difference, you can't beat it. You can get a 40 GB drive for about $300 or less.
For back up on large files, you can get a CD-R or CD-RW for pretty cheap. I recommend at least an 8x R speed, especially if you'll be backing up often. My brother got a USB external version that works like a champ. It was a 4x4x8 HP for about $250.

Thanks everyone !
I've got a lot to look into now. one question though, I would have to get an external, I think. I have three slots in my computer, and a spot for an internal storage thing that is the same size as my floppy. In my computer, the slots look like this:
----- ------------
----- ------------ ------
----- ------------ ------
I've used the top for a firewire card, so I need a scuzzy card, but do those usually need a short slot like the top one, or like the two below it???
It says in my hardware specs: There is one PCI 64-bit 33MHz PCI bus in the system that supports the PIIX4 IDE interface and the three PCI slots. The bus has a peak bandwidth of 266 Mbps in 64-bit mode, or 133 Mbps in 32-bit mode. There are read-ahead and write-behind buffers that help reduce PCI latency to memory.
Thanks for your help ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |
