I'm back after an extremely lengthy absence, but my account was messed up so I have to start a new one.
I'm working on a new painting, similar to an old one that I did but was never happy with. I've scoped out the action, but before I get too far into it, I'm looking for some feedback about which angle to present the action.
Any feedback would be appreciated in advance!

Whoah cool sketches dude. And Ian I like your idea too.
But my favorite is the very top one. Like a landscape. But my suggestion would be to either make the guy and tenacles bigger to fill more space, or the exact opposite and show a ton of landscape and trees with the guy and monster pretty far away.
I love the concept, make me want to paint it, but I suck and would ruin it.
My opinion is the first one slightly altered. What do you think?

GS, I suggest to use the angle form your 3rd pic. You can almost "feel" the action from that angle.
But that's my opinion... |

I prefer your last one gene_sequence. The overhead view looks great. It shows all the action and all the characters you want displayed without any cut-outs. Usually the overhead looks flat and boring but i feel that u made it look quite good. Keep up the nice work man and keep up posted

you MUST use the looking-behind-the-woman-from-the-forest-towards-the-monster one. It's the right-middle one. That has the best feel I think.
I really like the idea of doing all these angles. You've inspired me.

They all give off different feelings
1.) Your watching a show. Your not interacting with the characters, theyre mainly there for your entertainment.
2.) You have a God like view observing the battle, much more dynamic. Shows off the surrounding area nicely
3.) You almost are the character in this one, you get a good idea of what she's facing. Good sense of drama
4.) See 1&2
Ians.) Cant see the creature/surrounding area enough. If it was a comic book panel with more of a close up of her face it'd be a good way to show her emotion.
I'd go with #3 if just because it's such a unique angle. Maybe move the pole a bit so we can see more of the creature.. or not to be mysterious

All of the above mentioned
1st - More of a picture/scene (I have excellent discription skills)
2nd right - more suspense and a sense of being there
3rd - the most dramatic action packed one.
Just my cent |

Looks like #3 wins! Thanks all for the helpful comments! And Ian, especially thanks for the motivating colour study! I have prepared yet another little sketch to test the light values and the resulting drama that's created... we'll see if it gets anywhere...
again, thanks for the comments!!
