Thats really cool! Great first effort.
#1:My advice would be to perhaps draw your figure in a more exciting pose first? Spend an extra 20 minutes working up the character! Dont be too anxious to paint right away!
#2: Your shadows are black. In the water, they should have a cool tone to them, and not be quite so dark. Play around with your lighting!
#3: To learn the basics, avoid DODGE & BURN like the plague. Those can become a crutch for not really knowing what tones or values go where, and will only hamper you in the long run.
Please keep your artwork coming, Im very interested to see more!

Thanks alot for your replies.
ScoobyDoo: yes, i thougt about doing some kind of pose too, back then, but i wasn't good enough to draw that. And i do not really know how to do shadows in the water, an example would be highly apreciated.
And yes, i have gone past the dodge/burn habit now =)
Can't thank you enough for your nice comments...
Btw, here's a later version that i forgot that i had done.
Sorry for the big filesize.
And uhh, my name is NOT Tom Byron, sorry. |
